Is Mourinho trying to be too clever?

I think the original things I said were in reference to you claiming to have a small squad in comparison to competition. Nothing to do with simply hoarding all big names. Although as has been said. You have a first team squad of 24 first team players. You very rarely give a shot to many youngsters. They get a game it two and if don't set world alight it's bye bye.

We do have a relatively small squad. We do have a similar number of players on loan. But if they are on loan, although we hold their registration, they are not in our squad.

I didn't say it was the same 24, I said it was the same number, 24.

Thats fair enough. But your current list still doesn't include kakuta, so it's now 25. Anyways, my point when this was raised was simply that I could see how he may of got the numbers wrong. It wasn't an attack on Chelsea. Just as it wasn't originally.

Er, because he is no longer on loan…..

the point I was trying to make, is that whilst having a small squad like you do. As Jose has always done. Is that players are either part of the in crowd or surplus. He's always employed an 'us against then mentality' to brilliant effect I will say. I just think It can cause some players to become disillusioned as they feel unwanted. Meaning that there is not much shown to youth development. Jose has always been a manager that buys players to fit a system rather than nurture them. Granted he's making a song and dance about building round Oscar and Hazard but these were hardly yts lads.

Well buy the leagues home grown rules, city, UTD, Liverpool, arsenal and Chelsea do. And they're the clubs I'd count as big.

That's fair enough,I was just pointing out that all the Big cubs are guilty of it. Seems crazy that they get the pick of the crop & have the best facilities, but still can't produce quality players.

I think it's a sign of the times. Today it's results results results. Fergie and Wenger are the last to really give youth a proper chance. And they would still splash the cash too! As to youth, I don't necesarily mean home grown. Just signing youngsters and nurturing them into stars. That doesn't happen so much as it once did at the big clubs.

but how many were picked due to a lack of depth, as a pose to being real prospects. I would suggest only sterling is really considered first team at the minute. The others maybe, but last year you had all these young defensive prospects have a chance and then in august you signed two or free and relegated the youth to bench or reserves.

They are all prospects - very highly rated prospects at that - ( well apart from Spearing ) - some recognised internationally for full teams as well as youth level. We even signed some more youth prospects. Some have gone on loan , some have still be involved in the first team.

Impressed with our youth and our future.

Maybe, but they were still tossed aside when Rigers spent some money. Out of curiousity, which 3 do you think could start?

They havent been tossed aside - they are continuing with their development depending on which stage their career is at.

And the three could pssibly be Flanagan, Kelly and Sterling.

So why were they deemed go enough tonllayvefirbuiu last season and not this? Because you've gotten better options. Because your management team decided to buy other players than giving them a chance.
I only reason the defenders would get a chance is because your squad is decimated. Kelly has 77minutes game time in premier league. That's hardly being given an opportunity.

What ?

Kelly has been injured recently and struggling to regain fitness since recovering from his injury

The players are young players with varying expirence and at different stages - they have gone on loan to gain more expirence and some have stayed for training. Squads are constantly evolving - we bought some CB's in becasue Carra was retiring and expected Skrtel to leave.

None have been "tossed aside" as you suggest - its all part of the development.

Tossed aside may be a bit harsh. But if they are that prominent, then why we're they squad members last year and now sent on loan? Of that list you had, four of them had made double figure appearances. Some haven't made any professional appearances. If your youth was thought that highly, would you have spent 20m plus in to defenders not much older than the ones you had? Are they really gonna get picked ahead of them?

im nit saying some won't make it, but for me, giving youth a chance means starting them in the team. Like sterling is getting. Not farming out on loan. Look and jonjo, loaned out and then sold before being given a proper chance. Is Henderson really much better?

Squads evolve - its a big clus - youngsters get a taste and fill in with injuries and then get sent on loan to continue their development.

there are multiple stages of players developments - some need regualr first team , some need more coaching , some are ready right now for maybe 10 games a season , some for half and some for the whole season. But they are youngsters - you cant overplay them week in week out or you burn them out early - we did that with Owen. They are all still Liverpool players but they are doing their "Development" at different stages.

Sahko was bought to replace Carra - an established international CB to replace one leaving - we also bought a youngster who is currently on loan.

Shelvey was played a lot last season and just wasnt good enough - Henderson is maturing and improving and is better than him.
