Have just played 2 courses in London with only 6 clubs in my bag 5 wood, 23 deg hydrid, 7 /9 /56 deg wedge and a putter, and it was a revelation and really focused the mind on managing around the course.

Would be interested to know if others play with limited clubs and which ones.

By the way two courses were Aquarius and Beckenham Place neither particuarly long.

I once played a charity fun event that was a one club and putter. Worked out what I needed to hit the majority of the par 3s and took it from there. Played 9 holes in 4over par as a result.

Over the winter i only tend to take; Driver, 4,6,8,pw sw and putter. not during the season unless just playing a few holes.

Having grown up with the traditional odd numbered half set, I too seem to find that this club selection, Driver, 4,6,8,pw sw and putter, seems to fit my winter golf needs round my home course. It certainly makes you inventive at times ;)

My club has an annual 3 clubs and a putter stableford competition, usually won with a score around the 36-38 points mark.

Go figure!

We recently had our annual 4 clubs and a putter competition - the winner scored 45 points, which was 9 more than he had ever done with a full set of clubs.
