That Morecambe & Wise were the funniest double act ever ? Or is it a generational thing? Their best sketches are now 40 or more years old and still make make one cry with laughter.

I've always regarded myself as open to new comedy but still have not come across anything funnier than the "Andrew Preview" sketch.

Bit of both.

Mainly a generation thing but some specific sketches are/we’re that good they’ll stand the test of time, unfortunately many others don’t and come across as daft and unfunny now.

Was watching a programme about how Christmas has changed during the decades from the 50's through to now. They were on about the 70's how during the evening there was only three channels on the tv to watch. The thing is, you would be spoilt for choice though. You would sit as a family and laugh together at morecambe and wise etc. They were and still are excellent. Watched only fools and horses yesterday exactly the same.
With so many channels today, most of them are filled with overrated rubbish.
Would put the two ronnies and les Dawson up there with them.

Certain acts just stand the test of time, Morcambe and Wise, the two Ronnies, Tommy Cooper etc, some just are forgetable. Hale and Pace? I watched a re-run of Harry Enfiel and friends the other night, which back in the day I thought was the best thing on tv, well apart form the self righteous brothers and Kevin and Perry I found the whole thing completely boring and unfunny

Whilst I would agree with M&W probably being very funny and a pair of the greats they were not the only ones in their 'time' I always watched Benny Hill and the Two Ronnies. Very good stuff through the times for me has been shows like The Fast Show and Not the Nine O'clock news.

Not in the same genre but good for me has been a lot of the shows written by Ben Elton such as Red Dwarf and currently Upstart Crow.

I think they are a legendary partnership (as were the Two Ronnies, Steptoe & Son and the Likely Lads imo) and there Christmas show was a much watch in the same way as Fools and Horses became. There was a programme with the top 20 Morecambe & Wise sketches and each of those were still very funny, beautifully scripted and played out

As with anything on telly is always about personal taste - some of the old stuff was very funny at the time , some are still funny and when watching back some makes you think how on Earth was that funny.

No doubt it’s the same with the guys around at the moment -
Some of the programmes are brilliantly funny as with some of the comedians - but not everyone will like them - Mrs Browns Boys and Gavin and Stacey are two programs that have won multiple awards for comedy but are very much marmite for some people

The Office. Watched the first ever one when it was first on, and never laughed once. Never watched another episode.

And I'd add anything Gervais is in. And then throw Jim Carr in too. There's some cringeworthy stuff in every generation. And what I might have found funny 40 years ago is cringeworthy now. Some of Benny Hill's sexist stuff raised a laugh 40 years ago but wouldn't get past the the censors now.

It ain't half hot mum & Till death do us part are two programmes some people wouldn't admit to watching, let alone enjoying.

The jungle scenes in It Ain't Half Hot Mum were filmed at Hankley Common.

Mate and me did a disco at a local pub for the cast, after they filmed the last show. Strangely not a lot of women were there.:ooo:

I move in famous circles.

And there's me thinking that the only circles you move in are when you're looking for your ball 🤣

There are currently no funny comedians and no funny double acts. The only funny sit com is Motherland, which I have told you all about, which has massive possibilities and could run for a while with the right backing. Also Superstore, from the USA, again, I have told you about this too and Chanel Four and been rebuffed by them the clowns.
Nowt else is funny on TV.

Ricky Gervais is one of the best comedy minds in the world. The Office, Extras, Life's Too Short and Derek are all incredibly poignant and hilarious. Gervais along with Merchant captures real world issues and packages them perfectly for television.

Gervais is a one trick pony who's trick wasn't much cop to start with..

Never quite understood the love for him...
