Irish meet in 2012?

I'm sure i saw Portmarnock for €140 with 1 night and 2 rounds of Golf, with it being in Dublin anyone travelling from across the pond will be able to bag a cheap flight and it is a cracking course. If you didn't want to play it twice you have Royal Dublin, The Island or Portmarnock Old within 10 minutes.
Or maybe stay around Drogheda and play Baltray and Seapoint and u could throw in Concrawoods if u wanted a cracking 3rd course.
I don't really think there is much point coming to Ireland and playing Parkland.

I play at galgorm with a member of royal portrush, played earlier this year with him and he said they never change the price, regardless of numbers etc.
I guess if you want numbers to come from the mainland, minimising travel is important.

Believe it or not we had a good 50/50 mix of mainlanders and ourselves this year , 2 dutch guys and loads of Scots (obviously some were already over for a week long beerfest but included our 'do' as part of their stay which was much appreciated). The English and Welsh guys really do not know what they are missing.
Distance isnt a problem to those that want to play good courses, now on the other hand, there are those who simply will not leave their county, that is their loss in my opinion. We do always have the option of hiring a bus and collecting everyone in belfast and onwards to wherever which would save on fuel etc if need be.

I know I travelled for days (well it felt like it) to play at Goswick but itwas worth it a bus could be a could idea spesh if Dublin or somewhere comes out as a venue!

As long as Bear aint driving it.

Took the liberty of emailing a golf travel company in N.I regarding Portmarnock, heres their reply-

Hi Stephen, many thanks for your enquiry , we can offer any combination of
the below, if you do play the Portmarnock links course twice, then they
offer an excellent package

2 Nights B&B + 2 golf on Portmarnock Links is £155 per person sharing
2 Nights B&B + 1 golf on Portmarnock Links is £139 per person Sharing
Additional costs for other courses
St Margarets £50
The Island £95
The Old Course £170 (includes lunch)

The hotel is available for the requested date
(I just said friday/sat night in mid June)
3 course meal at the hotel is £25
2 course meal at the hotel is £17 (bar menu - starter and choice of burger
and chips or fish and chips)

Let me know what you think

Not a bad deal but would we want to play same course both days?

If you add a round at The Island onto 2 nights B&B plus 1 round at Portmarnock its £235. Now thats with a travel company so they obviously taking a cut so going direct to hotel and The Island we should be able to knock a few quid off that.

Have emailed the hotel directly asking for prices and will email The Island as well to see if they will take a large group booking on a weekend and to see if they will shift at all on the green fee.

will post back with those prices when I get them

Yeah sounds like a good idea. Us with it being close enough to Dublin hopefully a few will make the trip over ;)

:) I know Chris but i wouldnt mind a wee trip away, Ballyliffin is great but just down the road from me and doesnt warrant an overnight stay for me.

Happy enough to do Ballyliffin again if thats what the masses decide

Happy Days Steve, I am happy with whatever the majority go with (wife dependant). does this mean that you are helping this year :D:D:D:D:D:D Well volunteered that man!

Just on a side note anyone travelling and not too keen on bringing clubs McGuirks golf do club hire, was in there the other day and the sets were all top of the range this years gear along with Scotty putters all for 35 euro. Have to leave a credit card as deposit but i thought it would be a cheaper option than paying for your clubs on a flight.
Mike

June at the moment, dates wouldnt be sorted yet though Steve did enquire for the 2nd/3rd weekend June but that was only an enquiry to check on rough availability.

thecraw could be "held on at work" for a weekend.

She might not buy that but I can try and once I'm on that boat from Stranraer there really is no turning back!

Keep me in the loop, and probably best to keep me out of Kelly's too!!!!
