Premium Bonds are a decent short term safe place to hold your money. If you invest end of month, you then go into draw just over a month later. You can withraw in just a few days, so virtually instant access. Your only risk is having no wins, and losing the interest you would have got from a Cash ISA.
If you invest in stocks and shares, collective investments etc for just a year you are taking high risk. Personally I never 'invested' for clients for less than five years. Also if you need your money a short notice, I can guarantee the markets have just fallen !! Think it is called Sods Law. Investors that did best in stocks and shares were those that could pick and choose when to sell, and not have a deadline date.
If not Premium Bonds than a Cash ISA
