Guitars Advice

Sounds like he’s very lucky to have you. :)

A Christmas card with a ‘voucher’ or invite to a guitar shop in the new year is definitely a great shout. Let him spend some time handling and playing a bunch and it’ll become clear which one is right for him.

Whereabouts would you be shopping? I’m a member of a guitar forum who has some very knowledgeable people so can ask for recommendations for shops to consider as not all guitar/music shops are built the same. You’ll get a much better experience in some than you will others
Get him the £555 one and treat yourself to a driver, then everyone’s a winner 😁🤣

If you cant help family in times of need what is the point.

I'm in Surrey and they're near Manchester i'll suggest meeting him in London and we'll go from there.

If you have a link to the forum you use or some recomendations of places in London that would be cool. Thanks again for your help.
Perfect. Should give you some options.

there used to be a whole street (Denmark Street) dedicated to guitar shops but it’s not what it used to be I don’t think. So leave it with me!

Thanks for all of your advice guys, after speaking to my sister on Saturday morning, we agreed it would be better if she took him to choose a guitar so he had it for Christmas and he still thinks mum has bought it. He tried 5 different guitars and ended up choosing a Martin guitar. I will get pictures on Christmas Day.

Excellent!
Good taste.
I've enjoyed mine and improved (though I don't perform) using the mantra "Well, you cant blame the guitar, Sid!".

Ah amazing! Lovely guitars, although I've always been more of a Taylor man. Glad he got one sorted.

A regret:
Many moons ago when I got a quite decent severance package I battled with a severe urge to get a Gibson Hummingbird, mainly to hold and smell it. 😚
I relented and called it a (slightly later) mid life crisis.
I told myself my playing would never do it justice. Over the years I don't know how many stars I've seen just strumming away on one whilst their backing band does the work! 🙄

Any of you guitar heroes use a mini amp?
Mostly, I want something to act as an amp for headphones but I'm interested to know how much noise they can produce clearly when you've got the house to yourself.

Have you got one and does it behave when you crank it up?
I'd need the acoustic version which is a delightful shade of beige, but if it's got nuts I'd be willing to put up with it.
I haven’t but a friend has. Sounds great turned up for the size.

Blackstar make proper good stuff

What acoustic do you have?
Fender electro acoustic.
It's a dreadnought, so it doesn't need to be connected to an amp. But it can, so it seems rude not to see what it'll do.
Only just got it and haven't actually played it yet. First time I've picked a guitar up since 1989. 🤣🤘🤘

My human hands have never dropped a guitar.
I would have thought robot hands were more likely to crush it, Terminator style.
