Integrity of professionals as sales people

The seller on eBay is a club fitter
I've bought off them before
Always selling shafts, heads, clubs
The ping was probably built custom by them....??

That makes me feel a bit better that its not a fake. I have lost money here I realise this and its a lesson learned about not obeying impulse if nothing else.
Explanation to the wife is going to be entertaining. Sent KJT a thanks PM as well. We live and learn.

So the pro has found a bargain and managed to sell it at another price ?

Nothing really wrong with it but guess it's a danger when buying second hand
Not really focused on repeat business though is he? Especially when the price he paid is out in the public domain. He could have knocked it out at £130, doubled his money instead he chose to be greedy.

Sold as new yet the ebay advert says demo club ?

Did it have marks on it or look like it has been hit ?

Something doesn't seem right

Well, not strictly true. He sold it to me as 'new' and I had no reason to suspect otherwise. Looked fine, price was in line etc.

What you should do here is, phone Ping tomorrow
Give them the serial number
They will tell you the exact spec the club was built to when it left Ping
So if for instance, they tell you it was a stock shaft build
Take this info to your Pro, along with the eBay evidence, proving the club was Infact used and not "new ", therefore missold

I wouldn't trust a pro 100% same as I wouldn't trust a builder,plumber etc 100%.

It looks like your pro is using his initiative however 300% is a good profit.
Tough one for me,however a little bit of research of the product and price might have helped.
I would like to be a fly on the wall when you confront him.

It does look ''as new''. it isn't new unless you are peeling the wrapping off it.

The pro hasn't done too much wrong here. The club is 'as new'. It has an upgraded shaft.

He just happened to pick it up dirt cheap. You have to remember, at one stage you thought it was worth it.

I know Gary and I think thats why I am being more philosophical now I am more confident its not a fake.
I am a generally calm person so no heated exchange will be had just a discussion.

Thanks for the opinikns and feedback from all.

Now lets get back to Callaway Man, 5 hour rounds and the Yonex fitting guys, thays where the real action is until my wife gets the bank statement in :D

If the eBay seller is Golf Principles then I can fully vouch for them and the club will be real. That being said they could well have got a stock ping and swapped the shaft(likely) so ping records would not be up to date. The club builder there is first class.

If it were me I would give it back to your pro, show him you know it's a demo and not new as sold and get my money back. It would be hard for him to argue. Even if it goes back to him on the basis that you don't like it and take a £20 hit its better than sucking it up.

Edit: Pro's get plenty of 'own use' items, that they then sell on and pocket the cash. Its just commerce not extortion!

Yip, I'm led to believe a pro gets a free demo vokey for every 5 or 10 they purchase, some offer it as a proper demo and some will either stick it on sale at full value or discount the lot at the appropriate rate to give his members a saving.

So, straight down there this morning for opening before I head to work. Discussion held and evidence produced. Initially looked like it was going to turn nasty as he was a bit obtuse to begin with but 30 mins later, no raised voices might I add, he offered me two options; half refund and keep the club or full refund. I found that to be a good response and took option B.
Essentially he doesnt think selling equipment sourced elsewhere is wrong and I agree, he admitted that he only sold it as new as he was "chancing it" due to its condition and that it could pass for new. Ok so I fell for that.
Until the evidence was shown he did put up a few denials and a few indignant expressions.
I believe he is now putting it back on sale at a more reasonable £90 which I think is ok, as has been pointed out making a profit is fine, getting greedy was not IMO.

He openly admitted that he has bought from the aeller before as they are
'Very reliable and supply excellent equipment at superb prices which he can then get a profit from and most of it goes in the 2nd hand racks'.
Seems his new equipment sales have taken a dip year on year so he is using any source he can for items to suppliment his sales. Thats faur enough to me and I am happier that this was resolved without the need for aggro and having to go into the other stuff thats been circulating.

So my question about his integrity was possibly a bit more harsh than in reality and for that I would apologise (and to any pros offended by the question).

Now, to work 45 mins late.

Wasn't suggesting it was a fake as I've bought off this same ebay seller too and would happily recommend
Just that ping would have its exact spec when built, and thus proving it had been rebuilt, re shafted, this process itself voids any warranty

Ping records not being upto date.....??? Confused
They don't get updated once a club fitter swaps a shaft
But they do have records of all serial numbers and the original club specs as built by ping

Result.......

Both options were very decent offers

Don't blame the pro either for trying these different avenues either, margins are so bad on most new clubs, tough game to be in, but should have been sold to you as a used club, at a used club price, originally
That's his only error

No more or less than you would your local plumber, car salesman, electrician, MP etc etc.

Not quite sure about this quote as in a previous threads Pros have been held up as deserving a saint hood.
My two cents is alot of them have no enthusiasm for the sales part of the job. Most clubs would make more money getting some proper sales people in. You should be able to trust them 100% else whats the point of joing a club

Trust sales people ?!?!?

Sorry but you can keep sales people out of our pro shop

The last thing I would want is some one in my face when I walk in

That can stay firmly in AG

Thats a helluva generalisation about sales people, not all proper sales people are like what you would experience in AG or in a car showroom or your local clothes shop.

I tend to agree that having sales focused professionals would benefit more pro shops, even a pro with a bit of enthusiasm for the product selling it's benefits or offering more suited options to members would be a major plus.

There is nothing worse than hearing a pro continuously moan about prices and how they never get a turn from members, show some enthusiasm and maybe people with buy more.
