Integrity of professionals as sales people

Trust sales people ?!?!?

Sorry but you can keep sales people out of our pro shop

The last thing I would want is some one in my face when I walk in

That can stay firmly in AG

Just because someone is a 'sales person' does not mean they will be in your face. The most successful sales people employ a number of strategies depending on the situation. But if any sales person sat behind a desk looking meekly at any potential customer, or not even making eye contact every time, then they would go out of business pretty quickly. As that can be just as bad, I've walked out of shops before where I can't find anyone to help me.

My two cents is alot of them have no enthusiasm for the sales part of the job

That may be because they didn't turn pro to be a salesman.
The vast majority of pros I know turned pro to play on the European and USPGA tours and make lots of money doing something they love.
Instead they have to sit in a pro shop all day while everyone else is playing golf.

Most clubs would make more money getting some proper sales people in.

So who would do all the repairs, custom fits, lessons etc?

We get the message, you don't like pros.

If he sold it as a new club then that is fraud in my opinion. Price is irrelevant, the guy conned you and I would be telling everyone I could, especially the Golf Club.

Good news that you got your money back and I'm sure he will not get your custom again, even for a bottle of water

Not quite sure about this quote as in a previous threads Pros have been held up as deserving a saint hood.

You really seem to have a beef about club pros? They are important parts of many clubs and I find your point of view jaundiced and out of touch with the experiences most of us have with the ones in our own club or travelling to play elsewhere. They aren't out and out salesmen in the same way as a say a car dealer etc. They have done an extensive training programme on all aspects of golf and that does include business and the ability to stock and run a shop but if that was the be all and end all they'd all be fighting to work in American Golf.

I trust my pro totally. He is helpful, and provides a great service. He isn't a sales person but a GOLF professional who can sell. The two are different and to be fair I wouldn't want any pro giving the hard sell every time I set foot in the shop.

I disagree totally about the club profiting from getting "proper" sales people in. Most pros get a retainer from the club and the money they make is theirs and not fed back to the club so where's the benefit to the club. Unless the club are going to pay to stock the shop and take a profit, it's nothing to do with the overall running of the club and I think you're way out of kilter on this

OK just to get this thread back in to the realms of reality these are truly helpless people

Didnt see any golf pros on there did you?

How irrelevant can you get

You don't rate golf pro that highly we get it - but I and it appears others have no issues with them

I buy everything from my pro and manages to price match everything without the need for a hard sale - he is open honest with a lot of integrity

Same with ours. He has been at the club for over 20 years, and wouldn't have survived that long if he wasn't any good.
