Inspire a Generation

Perhaps the big question is time.
Nowadays both parents work and the return tired from their labours.
To take James to his tennis and Lucy to her gymnastics is an effort.
No easy answer.
When my kids were under 10's they were involved in sport and music at a decent level.
It was hard work keeping it all together.

I told my missus when we have kids they'll have a childhood similar to my own, climbing trees and experiencing the many joys of outdoor activities. I became a dad at 46 and again at 48. I used to get strange looks climbing trees with my 2 daughters!! I help coach the kids at the local British Gymnastics club, mainly to keep my two interested. They come with me to the golf cub once/twice a week to practice hitting some balls. They love playing outside on the trampoline or riding a bike. I let them on the laptop 30 mins a day to play their computer games. It annoys me to see overweight kids as young as 5/6 because their parents can't be bothered to play with them. Too easy to let them play on the x boxes all day.
Don't blame it all on the Government and making excuses for Parents.

There are plenty of varied sporting opportunities out there for kids to try, IF their parents take the trouble to look.
My 6 year old Grandaughter is involved in swimming, gymnastics, football, table-tennis and is part way through a 10 week golf beginners course.
She is quote good on her Parents i-pad, computer and phone, but nonetheless too busy and tired to go on them too much.

It should all start with the Parents first IMHO.

Nice on wrighty, sounds like your kids are well grounded and will go on to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

As has been mentioned, "It's hard work and tiring for parents", yes it is. But that is why we have children in our younger years. My daughter used to play table-tennis at County level and I'd drive her all over the country at weekends competing in tournaments. Every Tuesday evening was training at the Centre of Excellence, which was an hours drive away.

I wouldn't change anything - they are only young once and you only get one chance at it. Bless 'em.

Cheers mate , I didn't think I'd be demonstrating handsprings and pull ups at 53. I sleep well on Wed evenings!!!
