There welcoming and the Pro is a nice lad as well, i played there in September and it was in great condition. Its the most expensive club in the area by a long way at about £1000.

we played there on our jolly in Sept as well Steve, very good condition. Didn't see any members TBH, course was empty.

one thing i would say was, get a course planner, our 4 ball hadn't played the course before and we had fallen well behind the group in front and on a few holes in the middle we didn't have a clue where we were going.

Yes it is,Carnoustie is a Links Committee and there as are 3 club that play there, The Carnoustie Golf Club, The Caladonia and The Dalhousie. You pay your club membership then your Links ticket on top of that depending if you have a 2 or 3 course ticket, the chances of getting a 3 course ticket nowadays are virtually none.

So the date is approaching, do you have any tips on Aberdeen and Aberdeen area? Good pubs/restaurants/shops?
I was looking also for old golf prints, do you know where I can find them?

pubs - CASC, seven degrees north, the illicit still, mcginty's, old blackfriar's, the tippling house are all great pubs. the first two are specialist craft beer establishments

restaurants - rustico (italian), moonfish (seafood), the cock and bull which is just outside aberdeen on the road to cruden bay (gastro pub grub), café bohéme (french), nargile (turkish), boozy cow (gormet burger bar), prime cuts (steak house). you won't struggle though, there is a very good variety of cuisines in aberdeen. there's a really good indian my brother-in-law went to a few weeks back but I don't recall the name.

Back from the trip, we were so lucky with the weather, on 81 total holes we had rain only on 3! I will write a little review shortly :) thanks for all the suggestions as usual!
 
So as promised here is my little review.

First of all we were so lucky that we got just 3 holes of rain (first 3 at Panmure) out of 81 in total, Scotland has been very nice with us this time!

Royal Aberdeen: it was the first course of our trip, clubhouse is incredible, like a museum, we enjoyed breakfast there with the view of the first tee, amazing! first nine were indeed terrific, 1-2-3 are an incredible combination but as a lot of people say the second nine lack the beauty of the first. Overall a great experience even if a bit pricey. Nice touch they gave us a goodies bag complete with course map, tees, marker and pitchfork.

Murcar: it was the surprise of the trip, I went there without many expectations even because it is not talked much over the internet. For a fraction of the price of RA you get a great round with some unforgettable hole such as the 3rd and the 7th (Serpentine).

Cruden Bay: what can I say, when you park the car and you reach the clubhouse you have in front of you one of the greatest views in all golf! We played first the St. Olaf which is indeed a nice warmup with some good holes and great greens. The big course it's one good hole after another with incredible views. Unfortunately on top of the hill it was very foggy o we had no possibility to enjoy the view but considering showers were forecast we had nothing to argue. A nice touch was that they put your name on the blackboard in the dining room along with the other guests of the day. A must play!

Panmure: we finished our trip playing Panmure since it was on the way to the airport and I read a lot of nice reviews about it. Clubhouse is beautiful and full of history. The course starts a bit bland and opens up after the 4th. 6th hole (Hogan) is a great hole with a good green complex and the holes I enjoyed the most were the stretch form 12 to 14.

Overall we had a really great time and I suggest anyone playing in the Aberdeen area to enjoy great courses which are not so crowded as St. Andrews or the SW Ireland

Nice write up, I was also hugely impressed with Murcar when we had the forum trip there last year.

Only rained for 3 holes......are you sure you were in Scotland??
 
Cruden is a beauty isnt it, and I also thought the st olaf has the better greens.

We got a small miniature of Whisky on the first tee from the start when we played it.:D
