If it's a safety concern then that would suggest that a deaf person shouldn't be playing golf. I'd like to see what would happen if that one was put forward.

To the OP - Are you sure that you weren't singing the songs at a higher volume than you thought? :whistle:
 
You should have put the headphones back in when he started and stare blankly. Would recommend not blocking both ears on the course due to the risk of not hearing a fore shout, but don't see how you were disrespecting other golfers. I sometimes put mine in and play using the tour tempo app during a practice round.
