In my bag - what to change?

In my sig. below you can see what's in my bag.

I'm unsure about having two wilson staff fybrids in my bag and have been thinking i should maybe keep the 19.5º in but put the 3i from my MX900s back in and drop the 3h 21º Fybrid as it's very close to the 19.5º in performance.

Then i thought some more and thought, maybe i should get a 5 wood, keep the 3h in the bag and drop the 19.5º.

Or, 3rd option would be to get rid of the 21º and get another wedge in there... what wedge i'm not entirely sure.

All i know is that there's two clubs in my bag that are pretty close on performance and there must be something more useful i can have.

I would suggest that you think about two things.

Firstly, what do you need for your home course? If there's quite a bit of rough the extra hybrid will be useful or if there's some long par 3s too.

Secondly, how far do you hit your clubs? I wonder, for example, do you need your 4 iron with the two hybrids as they would probably be around the same difference depending on your confidence with the clubs.

I only carry one hybrid at the moment but am thinking about putting another in the bag at the expense of my 4 iron as I hit the hybrids much better right now.

I've only just joined my home course so am still getting to know it... thanks to the weather, it may take some time!

Sitting here thinking about it... all of the par 3s are iron shots, even into the wind.

I do like to use the hybrids for approach shots though. I'd say i hit the fybrid around 215 and the 3 h just under 200. I do find the 3h easier to hit from the turf though.

215 and 200 yards? Good hits and a good yardage gap too.

You do really have to think about your course and how you'd play it and then decide whether you need both of these hybrids (or your 4 iron perhaps).

I carry 4 wedges at the moment which cover 115, 100, 85 and bunker shots. But, I'm thinking about dropping one of them to add another hybrid. Playing my course off the yellows, the bag is pretty much spot on but from the white tees in competitions, I think its one hybrid light or a 5 wood light now.

There aren't really any absolutes here, its just about making sure you haven't got any big gaps in yardages or duplication, say between iron and hybrid.

I tend to drop my 3 or wood in summer and go with PW, 52, 56 and 60 mainly for the harder greens and longer greenside rough. However I normally carry 3 and 5W and a 3H and then 4-PW, 52 and 58 which give me enough variety. I need the hybrid for some of the par 3's and the 5W is normally ideal for the par 5's or long par 4's to lay up or go for the green.

I think a 5W would be a good asset and then you'll have plenty of variety. Depending on your PW loft I don't really see what else you coudl want as another wedge. A 60 is only 2 degrees more than you've got and you can open the 58 up if you need to

What you have sounds fine to me. I wouldn't want to put a 3-iron back in the bag... 3-irons are almost obsolete now didn't you know? :)

If I could change anything I might lose the 19.5 in favour of something a degree stronger.. are there any decent 18° clubs out there?

There is no need to have 2 hybrids with a 1.5 degree difference you should go with something that will give you 4% difference br it another hybrid or a 5 wood.

slugger...your bag must look like mine.

You have
3 Wood, Wilson Staff Fybrid 19.5º, Wilson Staff Fybrid 3h 21º
I have
3 wood, Wilson Staff Fybrid 5 wood and Wilson Staff Fybrid 3h 21º

The difference is about what suits your game and how far you can hit your clubs gap-wise.

For me, the choice to use the "traditional" set up but with a rescue club (1/3/5/3h 4-SW) was a no-brainer. I have about 15 yards between each club 3w/5w/3h so there's always an option for longer par 3s or strategic tee shots on shorter par 4s.

If you feel the lower lofted hybrid is too close to the other one, try a 5 wood, or try the next loft down in the W/S range of rescues.

while i'm at it... i'm sure i hit my 3 wood too high as well - i think i got the wrong shaft with the launcher.

Maybe i should be looking for a 3 & 5 wood combo and keep the 19.5º fybrid, then i could sell the launcher i have. I really like it, but it's a dog when hitting into the wind with the height i get from it.

This all has me in a bit of a quiver quandry!

I think people misunderstand the 19.5.
it may only have a 1.5 degrees from the 3H fybrid, but it's a larger head and more between a 7 and 5 wood than a rescue.
your gap between the two sounds fine to me.

It's a good point. The 19.5 degree club was designed all along to be a multi-purpose cross-over. I agree (in hindsight, and having read your thoughts) if the gap is 15 yards, that's ideal really!

I'm no expert but I'd say the gap yardage wise between the two was ideal as well.

How far do you hit the clubs either side of them ie the 3w and 4i?

I've just bought an 18º mizunu hybrid from haplesshacker so will see if that fills any gaps... will be interesting to see if it gives any gains over the fybrid. Might be waisted money, but i can sell it on if it's no good.

I hit my 3 wood around 220-30 on a good day, but as i've said earlier, i think i have the wrong shaft and it goes too high and i lose out on distance because of it.

My 4 iron goes around 175 - 80ish.

This is my first season at my new club, West Lothian GC. First medal this weekend to get the first of my 3 cards. Looking forward to it, but just hoping it's dried out a bit since my last visit!
