BBC have just shown blanket coverage for 4 days of the biggest event in the sport, IMO

Hopefully not...

If it is anything like their dedicated F1 channel it will be TEDIOUS.... Replay after replay after replay...

The only bit worth watching will be the actual event itself....

Without so much as a preview show or highlights.

Great news for the armchair fan.

We may even get camera's that can follow the ball to its destination.

I think it was Peter Alliss yesterday that said "he even fooled the cameraman" as
Rory hooked one into the rough and the cameraman was filming the fairway.
I had a little sniggle.

I'm not a Sky Fan, but give them there dues they do some sports very well.

As for the Open coverage, its great if you can sit in front of the TV all day.... as Dodger says no highlights, which if it had been on Sky i would have had the chance to watch a least 3 times by now.

this....replays and a zillion advert breaks.

Hard to compare a TV company that has dedicated Sports channels against the non commercial beeb.

non story!

Only 36 hours "live" golf - lots of adverts and fillers

The BBC have just done more live golf without one single advert

And the BBC can't dedicate one whole channel for a week because the BBC doesn't just cater for golf fans.

Just had the best 4 days coverage of golf on telly - it was fantastic - Sky will never match it.

There is going to be a hell of a lot of moaning on here about the adverts, talking & features. Matchplay is a terrible event for blanket coverage as there are so few matches on the course, especially when matches finish early, they are going to have to pad it out big time.

sky do it because they can just add a channel like that, BBC is mainstream and publicly funded. I really dont get the hatred of the BBC here sometimes, we have just had 4 days of excellent coverage in HD for free!

Makes up for the 20 odd times he guessed and called it wrong.

Alliss and James together, thank goodness there is a mute button.

Just had a look to see what sport they will have to move from SS4 each Monday to put on this extravaganza... nothing!

There is not a single original programme today on Sky sports 4

As a golf fan I'm looking forward to the event but lets not imagine there's any sacrifice for Sky in dedicating a channel when they have access to many and the one they'll use didn't even have anything on it anyway!

Anyone want to bet how many times each show will be repeated through the 14 days?

dont understand the constant sniping at one of our golf legends. Peter is a fantastic commentator and can pull on 50 years of in depth knowledge, he is also very witty with his quips.

Agree Peter is great.
However he is starting to wain.
Him and James were having a few disagreements about certain things.
Alliss wont have it any other way that Nicholas was the best golfer ever.
Also he said "Garcia putting for par" it was Dustin Johnson.
Think hes starting to get a bit like Brucie.

The bbc do a lot of stuff on the red button, hours of uninterupted coverage of various events.
