Had a very pleasurable fitting experience at Sherwood Forest golf club yesterday. I'm a lefty and was after some new irons, decided that I was after some forgiveness so had my heart set on some G30s, which was good as they only had Pings and Titleist for lefties. ;) Did also consider the RSI1s, but even a TM fan like myself started to wonder how long it would be before they brought out a new version with different 'technology'. I mean the SLDR irons were only reviewed in this months GM and they look like being replaced by RSI2s already.

I did consider trying out a few different brands, but my mates have G15s and they rave about them, and every review I've seen said they are very good and very forgiving which is what I am after. Also I was not that bothered about choosing one set over another just because they gave me 3 extra yards on the day I hit them, knowing at my standard, it could well be the other way round the next day. Anyway, as soon as I tried the G30s I knew they were the ones for me, they looked very confidence giving to a happy hacker like myself and felt great.

Had a bit of a bash on the GC2 and nflight which was interesting as I'd not really used launch monitors much before. And after whacking quite a few balls I came out as pretty standard apart from needing the clubs a little upright. My swing speed was probably quick enough for stiff shafts, however my peak height is a bit low and I sometimes have problems getting it up, it's possibly an age thing. So he recommended regular so I'd get a bit of a flex kick at impact to help that, which coupled with some lessons should sort me out.

Best thing was that they were just as cheap, if not cheaper than anywhere I'd found on the web, so it was a no brainer to order from them. Also the fitter gave me a free taster lesson after the fitting so I'll be going on for a few more soon once the clubs arrive. Now all I need to do is work on becoming a member of that fine club.

So anyone in the market for new forgiving irons the G30s seemed great to me and I'd highly recommend Sherwood Forest, now watch my non existent handicap as I am not a member of a club start to tumble.;)

Really wanted some Ping's G20 or G25's due to the great reviews and how easy they are to hit. however I really struggled with them and went for Mizuno Ez's instead. Was pretty gutted at 1st that the pings were not the club for me but I love my Mizzy's! However Our kid is the other way round and is planning a set of G30's for xmas!

I fell out with Mizuno as they stopped doing most clubs for lefties. Years ago I had some MX100s and probably would have got another set of Mizunos if they did them in left hand when I got a new set a bit ago, but at the time they did not do their current iron or hybrid range in left handed. I think they are again with the new 850s, but too late for me now.

Having said that I still keep going back to my MX700 Driver, 3, 5 wood and 23 degree hybrids I've had for years. But I looked at the G30s equivalents yesterday, and I may find them very tempting in the new year.

Love my Pings. Not even hit 50 years of age yet either!!
Give it another year

I love over my ping g10s I'm scared to change to another club. Saying that I hit the callaway x2 hot when they was doing a demo day at the club and sweeeet Jesus they was good. Felt so easy to hit and flew up in the air a mile but not ballooning. Liked the g25 too as the sole looks a lot slimmer than previous models.

Apparently so! But there are treatments!

While understandable, I find the anti-TM-marketing a bit contradictory. They are, supposedly, giving you the latest technology now, whereas other companies are supplying 'out of date' technology for at least 50% of the life cycle!

Has Sherwood Forest recovered from the storm damage that happened earlier this year? Great to see a Club Pro being competitive too!

If they're anything like my g25's, which they should, you'll get on great. Love mine, never hit my irons so well or far! And I'm not even 40 yet!

Went out for the first time with my new i25's last week.
Bit of a lottery as it started throwing it down the minute we stepped onto the first tee and it didn't stop all the way round.
Good ball striking (if you can call it that) was hit and miss.
Got on reasonably well with them, but they are certainly more lofted than my old Cobra S3's and I found I was having to take one more club than usual.
Hopefully a round or two off of better ground conditions will see me right, but with the amount of rain we have had yesterday and overnight I won't see that this week.

I kind of agree about TM and I am a mass of contradictions at times. I've defended TM in many threads, I used Speedbladz as hire clubs in the US this year and thought they were great, I think Project As are the best affordable balls out there and would not swap my TM putter for anything, including a Scotty Cameron, as it just works well for me most of the time. I've also got a SLDR Mini driver plus have had some Rocketballz hybrids.

I'm not totally sure why I suddenly felt like avoiding TM, possibly because even though I read most golf mags, watch Crossfield/Rick Shiels etc etc and like to think I am up with what's going on with in the world of golf, I finally got confused with TM iron product range. I am struggling to see why they released SLDR irons for any other reason than to cash in on the success of the SLDR drivers. And in the month they are reviewed in GM they seem to be bringing out their replacement RSI2s soon. Unless they will sit in addition to the SLDRs in the iron range, who knows.

This isn't to say they are bad irons as they are obviously not. But even I thoughts that if I buy the RSI1s I kind of expect in well under a years time there will be a new version out with potentially new technology. I am fully aware that most of it makes chuff all difference and the club will still be as good in 8 months time and the newer one will in reality hit it exactly the same distance.
But with the Ping G range I feel that they evolve and do the job extremely well in being an easy to hit forgiving iron, without having to revert to a lot of marketing gimmicks (well apart from the Turbulators;)) That is what they have always been. So it actually builds confidence in me that they know what they are doing and in some way do not have to rely on slots, holes saying they make a big difference etc etc.

Plus whilst not a major consideration, the resale value did enter my head as the G range does seem to hold up very well where as TMs will probably have lost more value due to the perceived 'out of dateidness' when I'd come to sell them. But hey, that could be just me and the fact I am getting old.

Yes they are recovering from the storm damage and the course looked lovely. And not only was the pro competitive he was actually cheaper than any of the well known internet shops I looked at, sometimes by up to 50 quid.

I took advantage of Ping having a demo day at my club and I was really impressed with their fitter assisted by my pro who knows my game.
The result was a brand new set of G30's which after 4 rounds seem to go a lot further and straighter than my old clubs. The gapping issues I had are gone and my yardages are much closer to what I would expect from each iron. OK, they are not forged, which I really liked and they do look a bit game improver, but the results are undeniable. They may take a little getting used to, as I have flown quite a few greens, but I have the whole of the winter to get that right.
I have to say I really like the G30 range and I am sure Ping will do very well with it. I would happily recommend the G30 irons to anyone looking to get down from say 24 to somewhere around a 10 handicap and if you are in the market for new irons you certainly need to check them out.

I was very similar. Went in really wanting the G30's, but they were outperformed by the Nike Covert 2.0's, which were also considerably cheaper. I tried the EZ's, and didn't really get on with them, didn't like the big offset. Have been using some old Callaway's which have basically no off-set, so was really weird looking down at the EZ's, just felt the ball was going to go straight left. I presume you like the offset?

Did not notice the offset but these were my 1st proper set of clubs I got fitted and may have not as noticed as much as other better players. Was hitting them pretty straight (still am) maybe that is down to my swing I am not sure. Did like the calloway x2 but they were a lot more expensive. Ping however I just struggled no matter how many time the fitter adjusted the clubs, but again that may be because of my swing too, just not sure :(

Fair enough. I picked mine off the shelf, so had 4 different clubs lined up together, and the difference in offset between the EZ's and the Coverts was very noticeable, can understand not seeing it if you had them fitted, and didn't get to see them all lined up together. Did you get the forged or the cast? I found the forged looked even more offset than the cast. I didn't get on with the X2's, my bag is almost extensively Callaway, but I didn't like the feel of the X2's at all. Was hitting the G30's well, but the difference in performance between them and the Coverts was so small, that it made sense to go for the cheaper option. EZ's are excellent clubs though, Crossfield swears by them. He actually changed irons fairly recently, but noticed in his last VLOG that he'd gone back to them.

Crossfields dumped the Mizuno H5's and gone back to EZ's?

I think so. The last VLOG with Lockey he was back to using the EZ's. They've got a new one coming out soon from Trump Turnberry, so be interesting to see if he's still using the EZ's.

Edit: Yep. Thought I'd seen the EZ's in the bag:

Just to add to the impressive service, I order them on Sunday (so the order would have been rang through on Monday at the earliest) and Sherwood Forest have just rang to say they are ready to be picked up. Yes they may have had some in my exact specification lying around, but as I am a lefty probably not, so very impressed. Ping may well have found themselves a long term fan!

I went for Ping 30's too.
They arrived yesterday afternoon and I raced off to a local P+P course that I like practising on.
7 of the 9 holes are between 100 and 148 yards with the other 2 just slightly shorter.
Went round in 4 less than my previous best and that was with a horrendous 7 on the shortest hole - GRRRR.
Anyway- can't wait to try them on the full course on Monday (weather permitting)
