If you moved to a house on the edge of a golf course....

Sounds crazy to me Brendy. I hate hearing of this sort of thing. Health and Safety brigade gone mad !!!! Slightly going off on a tangent here, but a fisherman has just been on the news here. He's been fishing off the coast of Morcambe for 20 years has today been told he can't fish the waters anymore because all of a sudden its not safe. Its a knock on effect to the cockle picking indicent last year.

Anyhow back on thread....... I've played many tracks where the houses even back onto the course. Tell him to collect the balls from his garden and stand at the gate selling them back to the players, he could make a few quid !! Or, he could take up our great game and he will feel lucky to live so close to a course. Or he could just get a life and find something better to occupy his time with.

re the original post, its happening in loads of different sports. take brands hatch as an example, a long established motor racing circuit, a guy moves into the area on the back of the main grand prix circuit, cant handle the noise and then gets the main GP track limited on its anual use because " he didnt realise it would be as noisey as it is " - the guy moved into a house that backs onto a motorracing venue what teh hell does he expect.

it really gets my back up that sports venues are lost because people purcahsed a house without thinking of the venue whether it be a golf course, cricket pitch or motor racing venue. its shocking.

I think the land registry search when buying property should have some sort of disclaimer than forces you to acknowledge any sporting venue that is in teh surrounding area within 5 miles. then if you choose to bitch about it at a later date - tuff.

We have a house on the left of our 10th and the garden is definitely in play. Touch wood we've never had a problem and as long as no one tries to get over the fence to look for the ball all will remain so. The house was there long before the golf course so I assume some pretty nifty negotiations (and a few brown envelopes) took place so they were happy to build the hole where it is

You are only losing 170yds but that's costing you an entire shot... sounds like the course will play a fraction harder! (less birdies on what was effectively a short par 5 at 495yds).

If they remodel the hole slightly into a risk/reward then it could be an excellent hole. Chin up....

PLUS you'll be right outside that guys house at 8am... he'll love that! :D

You are right, its not the end of the world. It is an akward hole everything from 70 yards short of the green slopes left to right including the green which is Augusta like, especially in the summer (you can land the ball 20 yards left of the pin and still end up below it to the right or off the green at the front). In Handicap qualifying conditions it is a bugger to do better than birdie, distance isnt the killer, its the amount of trees left and right that seem to draw you in from the teebox. Index 13 seems quite severe to the low men.

A previous club of mine (Silverdale) had an issue along it's 17th which runs parallel to a quite road with houses down one side - new residents started a fuss and the club offered a 40ft fence to stop the balls - unfortunately this ruined their wonderful view over the hills to morecambe bay. Needless to say they declined the offer but because they declined the offer there is now nothing they can do (according to the club solicitors).

I dont know if this has even been offered though as I said there is a huge fence just beyond this house which seems to protect the next few houses, just not this one. I would be erecting a fence then it shouldnt happen. Noone has been hurt that I am aware of so really it should be a case of preventative maintenance rather than bolting the gate after the horses have gone.
I bet the same people make use of our course in the winter when it snows as there are a few great hills for sledges, we know locals break in through weak areas of the fencing (different problem for a different day!)

Offer to make the change. That will change the stroke index, and therefore to balance the 9's make it the starting hole. He can have a lovely car park outside his house!
His choice then!

Its happening all over the shop.

The 8th at Rothesay, as Dodger will tell you was one of the best par 3's in Argyll if not Scotland. A stables/riding school opened up next to it and they had to move the green about 30 yards right. Ruined a fabulous hole.

18th at Cardross has had to be altered due to new 500k houses down the right.

Our 15th is getting altered to protect a new build.

In the spirit of Jeremy Clarkson, and just to balance you lot who think this is "Health & safety gone mad", this has nothing to do with H&S whatsoever - the HSExec would have no interest in private disputes like this whatsoever so it's a civil dispute between individuals and lawyers.

PS. By prosecuting companies that send young workers up on to unstable and unprotected roofs during demolition, the "Health and safety Brigade gone mad" have in recent years made substantial reductions in the numbers of young family men who have been killed and seriously disabled by falling through and off roofs thereby destroying hundres and hundreds of young families every year. They have also made it easier for carpenters, plumbers, electricians etcsuffering from asbestosis, silicosis and other similar horrendous lung-related illnesses caused by their work which kill circa 3000 people a year to gain compensation easier at a time when their quality of life is reduced to an appalling low level at a quite young age -look at that number properly, it is astonishing.

I don't know why they don't park their noses somewhere else, all they do is waste proper working people's time and money being jobsworths

But i do seriously wonder how they manage to get all these golf courses amended. Can't we suggest they build a tarpaulin frame over their garden instead ? Which would they prefer ?

Yeah Gods has the UK gone totally barking mad since I left ? How can one one man spoil the enjoyment of so many ? Oh sorry forgot you've got David Cameron now ;)

Here in not so PC NZ take a look at the top left hand corner of this course,http://g.co/maps/kpjux no high fences etc etc. There are many courses surrounded by houses here and no problems that I've heard off.

On a side note in pre schools here the pupils use hammers, saws drills etc as part of the if learning process of it hurt so i'll not do it again
