if you had the choice of either the perfect driver 300 down the middle everytime or the the perfect putter leathal from 15ft and in what would you choose
Putting for me too. Since the acquisition for the princely sum of £0 from AG my new odyssey 2ball blade has been awesome. I am holing more 3-6 footers than I ever did before and now seem to be getting more and more of those 8-15 foot ones you know you should be making every so often but never seem able to.
Has to be the putter-look at the stats on the European Tour:
Putts per GIR-top 10--Dougherty,Scott,Chowrasia,Howell,Harrington,Fasth,Chopra, Westwood,Goosen,Els.
Driving Distance-top 10--Alves Garcia,Chopra, Backstrom, Waring,Cabera Bello,Pilkington,Haig,Nilsson,Scott,Eliasson.
Cabera Bello is a prime example he is in the top 10 driving distance, top 10 in GIR but 144 in putts per GIR, whereas Westwood leads GIR and top 10 in putts per GIR.
Driver for me. There is no point holing out with a single putt every time for double bogeys when the driver/tee shot is letting you down.
Getting the ball into a scoring position in the first place is key.
I'll go with Brendy. If you can't get to the green before the card is wrecked, you are not going to score however many putts you hole. Added to which, my putting is normally one of my better skills.
The more fairways you hit and the shorter your second shot the more likely you are to have birdie/eagle chances.
But, the more 15ft putts you get the better your chances of getting those bidie/eagles if you're in the correct position in the correct number of shots. Or to save par when in trouble.
Personally I'd take putting - but because normally I'm a good driver and poor putter.
If I was the other way round though, I'd take the driving. It's all subject to your normal game!!
