Ian Poulter - Foot In Mouth

1) Tiger is a cheat, not blatant but taking benefit from outside assistance is out of line in my eyes.

2) He acts like a spoilt child at Nike so I have heard, If another Nike player upsets him, golden boy throws a hissy fit.

3) He is so dull that they are thinking of using him to bore inmates into guantanemo bay into submission.

4) He has the charisma of my damp insoles. Look at the gillette advert! Also have seen clips of "fun" things he is meant to be doing for his sponsors and to be honest he looks like he is doing it with a sniper trained on him in the event that he should not comply.

5) With the money he has in the bank he should spend a bit more time on being a daddy, anyone can be a father but being a daddy takes a lot more effort.

I know these are only my oppinions and I am not saying I am right, these are just my views.

1. Tiger plays to the same rules as every other professional golfer on Tour. If he uses that to his advantage then so be it. Every other pro has the same options open to them.

2. Please give examples then. Tiger has always acted like a gentleman and if the Nike club designers and ball designers are to be believed he is a great guy to be around. I think thats just sour grapes on your behalf.

3. So dull that Monty regards him as a close friend. So dull that Arnold Palmer calls him friend.

4. Tiger has more charisma than most. Have you ever seen his clinics on tour where he entertains the crowd not only with his amazing talent but also his wit charm, intelligence and charisma. Also have you looked at how successful the Tiger Woods Foundation is in America???

5. Point five I think is one of the most disgusting things that I have read on here. What do you know of Tigers home life and the amount of time and love he puts into being a father???? Accusing a dad of not being a "daddy" in your words is the lowest of the low. Cheap shot at best, down right disgusting is my take on it.

Ian Poulter backed to shake off mocking
By Lewine Mair in Dubai
Last Updated: 1:04pm GMT 30/01/2008

Have your say Read comments

Ian Poulter has received support from fellow Briton Zane Scotland, after the larger-than-life Englishman found himself being mocked by players for an article which appeared in Golf World magazine.

Ian Poulter: I am Tiger Woods' main rival
Lewine Mair: Celebrity approach splits golfers
In the article, Poulter is quoted as saying that once he plays to his potential, "It will just be me and Tiger."

Taming the Tiger: Ian Poulter says he was misquoted by Golf World
Several senior players have been poking fun at Poulter, even talking of staging a walk-out on the range to leave Poulter on his own alongside Woods, (something which Poulter would almost certainly find fun rather than embarrassing).

Scotland is of the opinion that people have been over-reacting to an article which is "all Ian."

He said: "Everyone knows what he's like. He's more outgoing than most and it's just how he talks. In fact, I can see what he means. We can all be very good when we play to our potential - it's just that Tiger plays to his so much more often than anyone else."

Poulter, as you would expect, is claiming to have been misquoted. Golf World, on the other hand, have said that they read the article back to the player before publication, though you would have to suspect that they kept quiet about the heading: "If I play to my potential, it's just me and Tiger."

If Poulter was not as flattering as he should have been about his rivals, he did not hold back on his opinion of Woods.

Having admitted that he, Poulter, might never reach No 1, he said that that was Tiger's place and that he was one in a million.

"Actually," he continued, "Tiger is one in ten million. He is extraordinary."

That said, he suggested that Woods had benefited from having a bit of a head-start.

"I didn't play golf when I was four like he did. He was winning majors when he was 20. I was working in a pro-shop in Leighton Buzzard when I was 23. So he's had a bit of a good head start, hasn't he."

Where all the talk is of how Woods could do the Grand Slam this year, Poulter suggested that Golf World put him down for the Open.

It is here, of course, that Poulter has a means of getting back at those have been enjoying stirring things up. A win at Royal Birkdale would be more than any of them could stomach.

problem with statements like that is, if it all goes tits up, it makes him look even worse after bragging. But each to their own and all that! We'll see.

Look at tigers schedule, is he at home that much, lets be honest. It is different from a man on the oil-rigs etc who has to work away to provide for his family.

I know many people in the same business as me who see so little of their kids they almost forget their names. I also know people who's kids are permanently in the care of nannies etc and are picked up by the parents when the whim takes them. It is no coincidence that the people I talk of are wealthy people to whom money is their only god.

Take tigers golf schedule and the time he spends with the hands of Nike marketing execs up his backside (corporate puppet) he is hardly a stay at home dad. This is my point. The guy DOESN'T NEED the money so in my eyes he should spend more time at home.

As for what I know craw, look at the tournaments played in 2007, thats a lot of 5/6 days away that could have been spent changing nappies, feeding and bonding with a baby in what is a crucial stage in the infants life.

Maybee I am too devoted to my family if there is such a thing but to me, there is nothing more important than my family. When my baby was born I took a month of work and when she fell ill a week, on £0 wages both times.

My point is that to Mr Woods surely family should be far more important than the $ after the fortune he has accumulated.

Family values are something I am almost fanatical about. My partner and my child are the reason & motivation for everything I do, every second I live. I am fiercely passionate about this matter, if anbody is offended by my comments I apologise.

One thing I will add is that Woods' record around Par 70/1 tracks is pretty ropey compared to his Par 72 record.
In fact, I don't believe he has won a Major on anything other than Par 72.

In other words, when it's all power, power, distance, distance, he comes good. When it's a bit snakey, tough and you need to keep the ball on the short stuff, he tends to come up short. Nicklaus could win anywhere, any time.

It isnt money what drives Tiger. He LOVES playing GOLF!!

Poulters comment if it is written how he said it is a muppet thing to say. I remeber Luke donald saying something similar once. I think its what there psychology coaches get them to think So theyre hypnotized to think it and it comes out in front of the press!

The way I look at it, Tiger is a fair amount ahead of the best of the rest. Is that because Tiger is so good or is it because the rest are not the best of the rest.

I think it’s because there is a void of top players and I’ll tell you why. When other players win it’s usually because Tiger is playing poorly, not because their playing to a higher level. Yes the other players are good, but others have not moved forward and if Poulter thinks his game will improve then well and good.

I could go through a few different sports where the dominant one becomes boring simply because he’s the dominant one.

I want to see a player take on Tiger and beat him by playing better than the best Tiger, not because Tiger has a bad weekend.

That’s why it’s easy to say Tiger is boring…….it’s the rest really.

I heard Howard Clarke on Radio Five Live saying that next time Tiger and Poulter are on the range at an event at the same time, the rest of the players will stop playing just to watch the "world's two best players". Hehe.
