I think he's a medicore player (as far as tour pros go) who really needed to have done something of significant note in the last year to make that statement.

Worst of it is I don't think it will cause Tiger more than a chuckle, after all Ian Poulter is not exactly on his radar of guys competing with him. It will however have seriously gotten the hackles up of the twenty odd players who are currently ranked higher than him in the world.

Jon,
I agree with you, I find Tiger the most boring sports person of recent times (minus steve McClown). I think Poulter was just having a bit of banter and the journo got it all wrong.

Can't agree with that statement, Tiger along with Garcia and 1 or 2 others are players that I would pay to watch play golf.Boring I think is not a word I would use to describe him! ;)

Can't agree with that either but hey forums are all about opinions. :)

I have to disagree with both of you on this score. As much as I would love to dislike Tiger I cant.

I honestly believe Tiger is the best thing to happen to golf in years. He is such an ambassador for the game and a genuine guy. The way he handles himself and shows so much respect and dignity is incredible. Tiger on the golf course is just phenomenal. Tiger winning everything just shows his class and ability.

Nike have invested heavily in Tiger Woods and deserve all the rewards that come their way in return. Tiger having a hold over Nike is nonsense. They both feed of each other.

Michelle Wie - ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!

Have to do this everytime her name is mentioned.

Dodger, you are entitled to your oppinion but I have no idea how you can say anything complimentary about Tigers personality, I really don't.

The Craw, have to doubt your views, the guy is happy to benefit from outside interference, he would never do a "Darren Clarke" in a million years, I have no time for him.

Can you elaborate on exactly why you feel Tiger has a bad personality?I find it incredible that you can say that there is no way I can say anything complimentary.......the guy is a complete ambassador for our sport and is never anything but eloquent and professional when being interviewed, give me Tigers personality over a tit like say Faldo anytime.

1) Tiger is a cheat, not blatant but taking benefit from outside assistance is out of line in my eyes.

2) He acts like a spoilt child at Nike so I have heard, If another Nike player upsets him, golden boy throws a hissy fit.

3) He is so dull that they are thinking of using him to bore inmates into guantanemo bay into submission.

4) He has the charisma of my damp insoles. Look at the gillette advert! Also have seen clips of "fun" things he is meant to be doing for his sponsors and to be honest he looks like he is doing it with a sniper trained on him in the event that he should not comply.

5) With the money he has in the bank he should spend a bit more time on being a daddy, anyone can be a father but being a daddy takes a lot more effort.

I know these are only my oppinions and I am not saying I am right, these are just my views.

Whilst Woods undoubtedly raised the profile of the sport and, inevitably due to his mixed race, widened the net of participation for people who may have otherwise assumed they couldn't possibly play the game, he is also in danger of alienating those self-same golfers.

Who here really watches a final round in the Majors if he goes into it leading? In fact, I'd love to see the viewing figures with Woods' Majors record of 'leading into final day 100%', 'not leading into final day 0%'. I'd bet there are more viewers for the latter. I mean, who really wants to watch a bloke hit 1i off every tee 'cos he can't hit a driver remotely straight when the pressure is on (e.g. 1st hole Ryder Cup 2006).

On top of this 'safety first', sorry, 'course management', you have to put up with moronic fawning from the commentators (and I'm really looking at you Torrance here). I'm only surprised we haven't had the hi-motion cameras examining the technique of his farts yet.

Dullard. And where was his social conscience? When he remained tight-lipped about the whole Golf Night/Weekly furore until such time as it was 'safe' to speak about it?

The kid's got no balls. He'd probably queue up at the petting zoo rather than get on the rollercoaster.

Poor old IP, I think he has really shown that he's a dim witt. But we all knew that anyway. As I always say Let him put his money where his mouth is.

Tiger and Poulter on the last at the master's level just the 1 hole to go.
Not to many would back Poulter. I would love to see that.
I like Poulter, but I think he should of kept his mouth shut this time.

A bit harsh toon, I understand what you mean about watching the last round if he's leading (I don't). But crdit where credit is due. I think thats why in Britain we dont have any superstars, nobody can see anyone doing well in this country. Take that plane crash last week at Heathrow, on the day it happened the Pilot was a hero. For the next week he was splashed all over the news papers, because he liked enjoying himself. (We wont go into detail). Look at ALL the England managers, their great guy's until thay lose a match (which is often, then all the [****] hits the fan abouth them. Jealous people just can't stand other's doing well. Tiger is great to watch on the 1st 3 rounds, but if he's leading, switch off, if you dont want to watch a master at work......

Dodgy,
Jon has a valid point, Woods is the best in the world, he has everything he wanted and still has plenty of time on his hands, why doesnt he take a break and spend time with his family? maybe its because he is a corporate puppet for nike and a money machine for them and nothing else.

Credit is due. He is unquestionably a fantastically skillful golfer. However, he rarely looks as if he is enjoying himself, is painfully predictable and just doesn't make me want to watch.

It is also to be noted that courses have been reconfigured with him in mind (on occasion) and 'made' tougher by making them longer (on the whole), which plays into his hands more than anyone else with his strength of recovery.

It's the same as other sports. Liverpool used to bore the tits off me with their title wins built on 1-0 away from home and pass the ball around the back four for 85min, but they were still champions. Naturally, given my username, I hate Man Utd with a passion, but even I am happy to admit that they were good to watch as well as being champions (ditto Arsenal). It's not because Chelsea were successful that people delighted in their failure to 'three-peat' (bloody Yanks...), it was because they were as much fun to watch as a chav's wedding.

Anyhoo, Ian Poulter - bit of a knob, but at least it's occasionally entertaining and at least he showed a hint of conscience with his choice of trouser at the Chinese event recently (see GM).

what therefore do you make of the likes of Mickleson,Fuyrk,Poulter,Monty,Els whom all play probably double Tigers amount of golf so therefore can't spend much time with there respective families??
Not sure how people are so qualified to know he doesn't spend time with his family?

We where talking about Tiger woods and how boring his play is and what a drab person he is, yes he has helped shape golf a little, but ask 7/10 yanks on the street, they dont even know who he is.

There are far more interesting people on the tour and without Tiger for a bit the final days play would be better without tiger winning and "playing safe" for 18 holes.

I feel I have to speak up in favour of Tiger here.

He's perceived as boring because he is so good. No one can touch him, hence the reason he is always leading on a Sunday. I watch him as much as I can and, as I have said before, am grateful to be around to see him at the peak of his powers. In 30 years time we'll all (that includes the "nay sayers") be getting misty eyed when our kids/grandkids are asking us what it was like to watch Tiger play.

As for his personality, due to his unbelievably high profile he has to be extra careful with what he says, anything that could be perceived as slightly controversial will get analysed to death and twisted this way and that. I would be saying next to F*** all too if I was in his position.

Watching Tiger play should be a must for any improving golfer. Especially on the last day of a major. How many times have you been needing a par up the last to break your handicap and are standing over your drive with your arse making buttons? I know how nervous I've been! To command your game in the last day of a major for 5 hours and keep moving yourself away from the pack when they get close is as superhuman as it gets in terms of golf.

And, since the USPGA he has had a significant amount of time off to spend time with his family. But that's really neither here nor there.
