I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Played Addington Palace today, glorious weather and the course was lovely. Shot 94 gross. Trialled it out as a potential to become a member.

Decisions! Pros and cons to the two clubs I’m considering joining.

one of our majors today, I started nicely, parred the first and just missed my par on the 2nd, just short of the par 5 3rd in 3 and then 2 duffed chips and 3 putts later carded an 8, i also had 8s on 7th, 11th and 17th. i am so erratic at the moment, putting was a little better though.

Singles ko match yesterday. Haven’t been in the best of health since getting back from the Far East on Friday, combination of the runs and jet lag.

Thought seriously about dropping out and conceding the tie, but decided to take a couple of Imodium and give it a go.

Didn’t give myself much of a chance in the circumstances, but got off to a flyer - par, birdie to be 2 up after 2. We both played well thereafter, I got to 3 up after 12, but my opponent kept chipping away as I got a bit fatigued mentally and physically, and got back to all square after 17.

Was fearing the worst, however out of nowhere my opponent hit his worst drive of the day, had to play 3 off the tee, carved his 4th into the trees, and conceded.

It was a cracking match, glad to have won, however fortuitously.

(The Imodium worked as well 🙏 )

Our first shield match of the year today at Bolton Old Links, despite an horrendous start over the first 3 holes I played well for the rest of the round and delighted to win my match 2&1 after giving 8 shots, the team also won so it was a great start.
However the main talking point of the day was the fact the there was an English school's tournament being played before us, 80 teenagers playing in 4 balls and they were not quick, there were also 2 members fourballs squeeze in after the kids but before us. The tee times were running about 20 minutes late to start with and it was very slow. the course is quite high up and we were all freezing by the time we had finished 5 hours later! It was great to see so many boys and girls playing but I really don't know why the club had booked our match of 5 singles on the same day as the schools competition, the team from BOL were very apologetic.

Back down to earth with a bump.

Pairs knockout match, we were getting 6 shots off one of our opponents, nowt off the other. They played out of their skins, any time one of them was struggling on a hole, his partner would hit an exceptional shot. They barely missed a putt as well, rattling them in from all over the place. 12 and 18 handicappers, I reckon they must have been level par at worst yesterday.

We played poorly by comparison, and got absolutely steamrollered, losing 7&6.

Got another pairs knockout tomorrow, hopefully we can do a bit better then.

Managed to get a rare Monday evening out, hopefully more to come as my son is getting more respite time, new session that is 2.5 hours on a Monday evening during term time.

Started terribly as I barely made the tee time, had to tighten my shoes on the tee as I rushed from the car to the tee box with them open. Was 5 over after 5 but played the next 13 in 1 over but yet again I had 2 doubles which are just killing me at the moment. Switch around in golf standard as well, was pretty crap off the tee while my short game and putting was great, had numerous tap in pars after chipping it close from just off the green.

Got a knockout doubles match on Wednesday and was tempted to put a card in last night to knock the best round of my life out of my scores which would have given me a 0.7 raise but didn't want to look desperate to win a match.

Well that was a weird and bizarre round. Roll up this morning and I was in the last 4 ball out, met some decent blokes but the golf was odd, our greens were almost unplayable today😂

Quite possibly the best I’ve struck the ball in weeks. But none of us could hold a green they were so firm and fast. On one hole I hit a really good high 9’iron shot into the wind, as it landed on the green we all watched as it literally bounced a good 6 Foot high and then on through into the crap.

It was the same for all of us, the roll up was won with 33 points, 2nd place was 28pts. The longest putt holed by anyone in our group today was 18inches, anything over 10feet you were just happy to 2 putt and lag it up.

At one point I thought I’d holed a perfect 30ft dead weight putt, only to see it shave the edge by millimetres then gather speed, running through and off the green and tucking itself against the 1st cut of rough so I had to chip the one back! I genuinely played well today, played some good approaches and putts yet felt happy as I walked off with 26pts. 😳

Quick chat with a few of the older members afterwards and they said yeah it gets like this in the summer months. You just have to double the break and half the speed you think it is! It’s gonna be a long summer 😂

Meanwhile we are still on preferred lies, getting mud balls everywhere and leaving craters in the greens when the ball lands.

At least that would mean I’d be able to score 😂

On one hole I hit a 270yd drive, and a 75yd high spinny lob wedge, landed it 20ft short of the pin and watched in run through the green and down a slope at the back into thick rough. Walked off of with a 6😂

We're still on PL and the ground is rock hard.
The grass doesn't normally start growing much until May at my place so we still have bare lies and clumpy bits.
God, we need so e rain....

Got out for some chipping practice and then played 7 holes of the back nine (skipped the par 3s 14th & 15th). Found a nice feel for chipping which is sort of akin to a tour pro's impact position, feeling quite open to the target.

Then the seven holes - as if by magic, my golf game came back! Where was it hiding at the weekend?? Nobody knows. Three pars and four bogeys, including two very nice 10 footers drained to save pars on the 12th and 17th. No hosely heel strikes in sight.

Can't wait for it to disappear again on Saturday! 😆

Went to Chorley today for a practice ahead of a match against them in a couple of weeks, there was a very cold wind and it was my 4th round in 4 days and my game wasn't great either.

So the other week whilst I was away the lads decided that on 18 hole comp day our fuddle would play off the white pots. I was not happy. So today is the first day off the 18 hole comp for me. I was the only one to play off the yellows. I expected an earfull. However the lads were very positive. Basically saying you should be able to play off what you want. Which contradicted what they voted for. My reason for playing off the yellows. to get my handicap down. So after 9 holes I have 19 points, 18 holes 37 points, with a monumental screw up on the last after two monster shots on the par five.
So Tashyboy is chuffed to bits coz I will deffo have a cut. It’s a Brucie bonus coz it also looks like I have won Division 3.
Happy day today 😄

Had an invite to play Foxhills today with a member. Nice enough track in reasonable condition but he said the subs are £5400. It's a nice setup with two courses but it's not five and a half grand nice.
Does that include the gym and use of other facilities as well?
I agree for the price it’s not great value for money.
2 decent courses but a lot of better ones close by.
Also having to drive in constantly looking at Queenwood must be soul destroying
