All your troubles remind me of my dad, he because obsessed with improving bunker and chipping techniques. I don't think so, most videos I've seen on bunkers say the same things anyway. I was just making the point that the conventional techniques most people teach don't really work for me. But, as we've also discussed, I think a lot of those relate more to lovely, fluffy, sand-filled bunkers that I never play. My best form of defence is to avoid them completely, I often do a round without going in one, simply by taking a longer club when needed or aiming away from them. When I go in one on a proper carded rounded I do what Slime said and just try and get it the hell out without worrying about where the flag is. That normally means keeping the face square and just hitting it hard with a 60 and hope for the best.

We tend to have firm bunkers, and the general school of thought amongst the members is to keep the club square. The technique from there will be down to the individual, but if the sand is compacted and you open up the face, and add bounce, then you're creating an issue you don't need.

Do you have anywhere to practice bunker shots? Maybe spending a couple of hours in the sand might help - or send you completely nuts

Also, make sure you commit to the shot. No slow half swings.

No. The one practice bunker at my club is about 3 feet in diameter and has no more than 3 handfuls of sand chucked in it. Even Rory McIlroy would struggle to get out of it I think.

4BBB Seniors Open at Goswick today, sunny, light winds partnered by @Lord Tyrion, really good day out, we played well for 38pts, 46 was leading when we left, we could of possibly got another 3-4 points with a bit of luck, but nowhere near 46.

Great fun, great company, course in great condition, everything you’d want on a day like this.

I'll adjust the above slightly. @PaulMdj played well, very well. If I can borrow a Tash phrase, I was rammel. Drove pretty well but the rest was poor. Occasional good shots breaking up the dross. As for the putting .

The saving grace was birdying the last with an arrow straight drive, semi decent chip, smoothly stroked putt . From selling the clubs to loving golf again, all within minutes .

Smashing day. Course was excellent, in fabulous condition. I suspect I was under cooked to play it. You really need to be on your game to score well there and I wasn't. I'll happily be back again to improve my lot.

First 18 holes after work of the year. Played really well tee to green. Hit my driver really well, some solid iron shots and approach play was decent. Couldn’t put the ball in the hole if it was remote controlled. Pushed them, pulled them and even managed to thin one.

1st rnd of club Mixed Foursomes KO yesterday.

We won on 19th, but fair to say that on three occasions we had the absurd good luck that golf throws up. Two mishit chips - one on 6 and one 17th with us one down - that would have gone miles past, but that clattered the flag and stopped within 3ft. Partner holed the putts for an half on 6 and a win on 17. And on 19th my misdirected approach from 100yds dropped well short and wide but somehow managed to roll up and off the side slope of a green side bunker to finish 8ft away. Two putts saw the job done.

I mentioned to my partner - relatively new to match play golf…that next time it might equally easily be us on the receiving end…that’s golf.

Today was out first handicap qualifier of the year, I have to be honest I am not sure it should have been one as the course isn't in the best condition and the greens are quite bumpy. I started pretty well although the greens were very slow and I had a couple of 3 putts. Then after some back luck on the 7th I stared scoring very badly, I was mostly hitting the ball ok, but I managed to find a ditch on 3 holes in succession, missed 4 putts under 2 feet although I did have a birdie 2 on the 14th. I had 2 pars and a birdie but 10 scores of double bogey or worse. One of my worst rounds for a long time.

Nice after-work round, course was busy, but tempo was spot on, no waiting around, first time that's ever happened to me, so slightly impressed by that

The weather was cold and windy...very windy. A few shots literally stopped in the air, and whilst I am a championship-calibre slicer, I couldn't be anything but impressed when a straight high tee shot blew across the huge fairway. It wasn't a slice, but one of the best fake lookalike slices ever, thanks to the wind.

only used 3 wood, 5 wood and 3 hybrid off the tee, and my 3 wood is really doing well, even though I hit 33% fir, every tee shot was playable, so I am absolutely loving the G425 Max 3 wood and G400 SFT 5 wood.
Can anyone tell me if the G425 SFT driver is as solid as the G425 fairway metals? I had a G430 max, but couldn't hit it at all, nothing but huge slices (I went back to my stealth and hit everything fine, so the whole G430 thing was very confusing)

So while my tee shots were doing great, my iron play started to get a bit better too, which led to a lower score today, and my short game is still improving, plus my putting is on fire. No 3 putts today, 29 in total.

Shot a 94, which I think is the lowest score of the year thus far, and the first time everything was working together! Normally, one thing works well, and the other 3 things don't
