I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Out with the Society at a very very soggy West Berkshire today.
Rained on and off most of the day except standing on the 17th tee and a squall came over and playing the last 2 holes was very reminiscent of West Surrey '24...
Couldn't really get going, hit some crackers, hit some honkers to scrape 26 points.
The back 9 should really have been closed - massively wet and soft.
Managed a couple of birdies including a 2 so won almost as much as the winner....who got 46 points and a 5 shot cut..that'll learn him!

I was a member there for a few years back in the early 2000’s, the back 9 was added from what use to be farmer’s fields, they’d always talked about improving the drainage etc and sad to hear it sounds like they haven’t done much.

Was the 5th playing over 600yds or was it shortened?

Played today, very wet but great fun.
A respectful 33 points for me.
My mate scored 40 points but can’t moan too much as he shot 6 under.
It was more like watching darts than golf with the greens so soft.

it was much shorter as we were playing off the Green Tees ( all others out of play) but still 540 ish
I had a game of 2 halves, 11 points on the front and 21 on the back for a respectible 32

Funny old game init

Mine closed as well.

Pity, had a lesson on Wednesday. No idea how it'll help me, but of the many many pros I have had lessons with in the past, I think I have finally met one that could make a big difference :)

Peeing down here.
Had a bit of a bang on my head under the stairs 😳

Doctor said “It’s Vertigo “
Had it when I got hit on the head with a ball it’s horrible!

So no driving or golf or anything else for 10 days 🙈
Never been hit by a ball myself, touch wood.

Although i was wayward hitting a 3 wood into a par 5 once, and smashed someone in the mouth about 200+ yards away.

Joined the 8am roll-up today. After all the lovely weather mid-week, it was back to cold, windy and miserable on golf day of course.

I started appallingly, it was almost embarrassing. Weirdly I managed three pars on the first nine, but only one bogey and the rest all doubles and triples. Just could not find my swing at all - maybe because I was wearing the rain jacket, and because I tried playing in two rain gloves (never works, I had to take the right one off). It was very windy so that wouldn't have helped. I hit it out of the heel a lot, hit some trees, hit plenty of bunkers, duffed or knifed my chips. Horrific stuff. Had only 10 points at the turn and in very real danger of earning myself the wanker's hat (roll-up wooden spoon prize).

Second nine didn't start any better as I got a three-putt on the 1st when my ball held up in an unseen puddle. Duffed my approach on the 2nd and was seriously considering walking off, when I managed a very nice up-and-down to save par out of nowhere. 3rd & 4th holes were still crap, but scraped a bogey on the latter with a 12 foot putt. Then I finally remembered how to play. Finished par, par, bogey, par, par to scramble my way up to 26 points. No wanker's hat for me.

In the end I'd managed 8 pars which is normally a decent return, but with only three bogeys and the rest was abject crap. At least I finished strongly I guess. The sun was out by then so maybe that helped. 😂

It is good to do the hard yards. Makes you really appreciate the better weather in the summer ☀️

Final day of Winter League and played with one of three potential winners (I'm mid table, missing 5 weeks).

If we won, basically he won and we did convincingly 5&4. Started to pour down, so just went in after the winning putt.

Awful, absolutely awful. Had 5 doubles, can’t remember the last time I did that. Just couldn’t get the pace of the greens at all, everything was 6 foot short or 6 foot past.

Rounded off a shocking round by missing a 10 inch putt to win our doubles match, could only laugh or else I might have snapped a club. 😂

I'd be more annoyed a 10 inch putt wasn't given :)

A lovely sunny day and a friendly matchplay knock with three mates. I had a 3 over front nine with a double and a bogey and then came back in 3 under for a level par round. We won 3/2 which earned us a pint. The winter work on my wedge play between 50 and 100 yards is paying off.

Lovely day on the course, Ind Stab Comp, played OK but only getting 7 shots and I’m nowhere near that imo.😂😂

32 points, so not bad. for a bit of fun I left the Driver out of the bag and took my Mini Driver, hit it really well missing only 2 fairways out of 13.

Won my friendly match against my mate today despite my continuing experiment with an early extension. This condition leads to thins and toe strikes.

I've been here before and can't remember how I cured it, lots of videos and hard work, probably.

I won because my mate at times is the world's worst chipper, and because my new Ping i500 irons are very forgiving. I can't wait to start hitting decent golf shots with these things, the few I've hit so far have been otherworldly.

Ok.....now the MET is just giving me hope. The next week is predicted to be pretty well dry......in which case 18 holes will be open everywhere around here. Should I believe?
