I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Nooooo. They docked me 4 BEFORE we went out. I think due to the fact I don't usually play with thme and a few / all have already lost shots so to turn up and play off my full h/C would have given me a serious advantange.....in theory. As I said, one bloke already had been docked 5 shots and still came in with 41pts!
I suppose with hindsight the 28 points you scored plus the other four points you could of got playing off full handicap could of caused a massive rift in the fuddle 😖 I mean even with 32 points you were only nine points behind the winner.
The odd thing about this fuddles rules is that they will be very vocal about WHS. 😂👍 not only that, am Sure it was noted you were protecting your handicap 😂

Hmmm. I think if ever I was to play with such a group which docked me shots BEFORE I played my first round with them, that first round would also be my last.

Never heard such nonsense.

I have been driving the ball really really well. Guys in our fuddle who have not played with Me for a couple of months are astonished how straight I am hitting it. Quite enjoying my golf at the moment.
One of our fuddle today shot 46 points. His first drag of the year. Ironically he is the fastest player in he fuddle and went out last. It was a slow slow round as he went out last. We were the first three ball out and became a fourball after 9 holes. We finished 20 mins in front of 3 ball behind us. One of lads behind is very slow and very boring and does not shut up talking.
So I have put a message on our whattsapp group.
“ congrats on a fantastic win today Baz, slow play suits your game, you can thank ( insert name) for that. Five lads have put laughing emojis up.
If it gets a slow play message across then job done.

That’s the way the swindle has been run for over a decade - never seems to be an issue with those that join

I’ll be honest, if I played regular comps and joined a swindle for a round and was told I would be welcome, but would have to play off a handicap two shots lower than my WHS index, I would perhaps not bother.

I feel the same. Feels a bit odd to say welcome to our friendly little knock by the way you will be playing of 2 shots less than your actual allowed handicap. Bit like saying even though you’ve never played with us before we’re effectively going to assume you play off the wrong handicap.

We have a fuddle of around 30 guys, a few have joined over the years. They are docked 2 shots off there official handicap straight away. Everyone is ok with that and by and large it levels out. But four shots 😳
I enjoy our fuddle meet ups, But some really are motivated by winning a Couple of quid. Last year I won £329, finished 9th out of 31 lads. Started the year shopping at Aldi, and finished the year shopping at Aldi. Hcap dropped from high of 25 to lowest 18.

And having read Crazy’s post again, it wasn’t a level playing field in terms of reductions, someone else having been docked five.

If EVERYONE in a swindle was docked the same number of shots then, whilst rather pointless, I could just about live with it.

But to dock guests, and to then dock them an arbitrary and random number of shots? Never heard of it, and I wouldn’t join a swindle which did it.

This I get, but we have had a few lads that have played in our fuddle and quite frankly have protected there handicaps very well. But It was the shenanigans of a few that have been the reason our fuddle takes two shots. One of the guys Came from one of the Belton courses. He was one of the biggest cheats a lot of us had seen. I had seen him cheat a couple of times and he was told point blank that he had played the game for 30 years and knows he should not be doing the things he was. Stamping down grass, improving lie, kicking ball.
It kicked off bigstyle on an away day. I was not there. He was seen kicking his ball, but he was watching his 3 playing partners who did not see him do it. Another two guys on an adjoining fairway did. One of the lads heads went, he was upset by it. Word got around. At the end of the day. One of the fuddle lads said on Whattsapp group chat “ Clive, you have been seen cheating again and the lads do not want to see you in the fuddle again”.

I’m the opposite, I don’t mind that so much but 4 shots seems excessive.

When I joined my current club I played in a member run sweep that first winter. They had my initial handicap as my index rather than my playing handicap so I lost a couple of shots. I didn’t mind though, I would have hated to join a new sweep and win straight away. I did end up winning a couple of sweeps even with the cut.

I’d be more worried about the guy that had been cut 5 shots and still coming in with 41. That would put me off joining a sweep.

Wowser for winning £329 for being 9th, how much do you chuck in every time? We only put in £2, and guys who win the yearly prize at best only get £250 ish ,but we do play pairs and only twice a week

We Chuck in £5 a round. The prize money is split into £1 front nine, £1 back nine, £1 overall. 50 p each for nearest the 4x par threes =£5.
I suppose if you look at it that we play twice a week, even if you play 80 times through the year that’s £400. So £329 sounds nice but it don’t change your lifestyle. Although the way some look at the money. You would think it does 😄

Thursday Roll-up knock yesterday scored awful…however my score wasn’t the best-all-and-end-all of why I played. I wanted to try out a few new things…one seems to be coming along nicely; the other two the jury is out…not sure if I’ll persevere…as not sure the transition would be worth the pain.

The latter two are tweaks to things others think that I already do well - I’d just like to do a little better. The former is a shot that I have never had…and my coach has encouraged me to get into my armoury.

For our Saturday roll-up our entry is £1. Winner will usually get £12-£18. We 100% don’t play for the money…it’s simply a little encouragement and to the top 3 a reward for doing well.

We keep a record and table of all playing and their scores, and at end of each Winter/Summer season we award the trophy we have commemorating the lad who set up the roll-up…it’s the trophy that matters rather than money.

As the good book says…it is the pursuit of money that is the root of all evil - we know what can happen when too much money is at stake.

I forgot to mention. If you win either front nine, back or overall you get docked a shot. Win all three even if sharing with another player you get docked two. 👍
