I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Final of the month long 4BBB comps, so 8 groups out this morning. We played well, 69 gross (-3) for a net 67, no dropped shots but not enough birdie chances taken.

Tough crowd to beat as we finished 5th of 8 with the winners shooting 62 in a strong wind. Absolutely no chance we could get anywhere near that.

Medal today. A good warm up and then went to the first tee where it absolutely lashed it down 😢. Very strong wind all day accompanied with heavy showers, one was biblical. Played crap with 9 bogeys and just 2 pars in the first 11 holes. Then found my game and played the last 7 holes in 2 under to make my score look a little more respectable. That’s probably my last competition of this year off the back tees.

Get a video up on “ ask the experts “ so we can all tell you what your doing wrong 😂

Bob will sort you out.👍
I’m not vain enough to post one on here plus the only videos I do have are from a month or 2 ago where I was absolutely stirring the driver on the range so no point putting up a working video 🤣

Range tomorrow with the Mrs and I’ll address the issues and tough it out for 3 weeks before the clubs go away till End Feb which is likely the next chance I’ll get to play unless I can squeeze a round in during the 2 weeks I’m home at Xmas.

My comments are more about course conditions more than my own golf.

I played on Tuesday and the greens were as fast as they have been most of the summer lots of players were talking about it, I came second with 32 points - PCC 3

I played yesterday and greens were chalk and cheese for speed, back to winter speed, I must have dropped 6 shots for failing to adjust enough.
I came second in our group with just 30 points best was 33 points. When checking the computer scores for the day's comp before leaving the club the best score was 34 points - PCC 2

The wind could also have been a factor as well as the greens for the high scores.

Played in a 36 hole Open, the leader after Day 1 had 49 stableford points......bug surprise he was not a single figure handicap.

Today he choked......only had 41 points, as I did not stay for presentations, 3 hour drive home, I think he fell over the line.

Muggins had a great weekend, but maybe drank a bit too much.

Range session today to work on the horror show that is my driving!

Warmed up with a few wedges and long irons hitting it nicely. Picked the driver up 10 shots in a row! pulled left, push right, pull hook, push slice, pull, pull, pull, slice, slice, pull hook!!

Got Mrs M to video it and it was so disconnected, arms getting away from the body taking the club outside then rolling over getting to far behind me followed by Almost a lift and turn to the top get me steep and high over the shoulders with the club slightly across the line, downswing then got steeper with an early hip extension to get me back into the ball and hands having to work overtime to square the club to path so unless I timed everything perfectly it was no surprise I have a 2 way miss!!

Went back to doing a drill I did as a junior, basically trying to swing like Steve Stricker, slight preset of the hands with a forward press to start the swing and trying to keep the club outside the hands and zero setting of the wrists trying to keep the hands quiet throughout the swing, took a few swings to feel it and voila straight high baby cuts , clubhead speed felt better as well as I wasn’t trying to steer the ball and according to trackman, clubhead and ball speed were up. Plane and path was much more neutral on down swing and wasn’t getting stuck behind it and having to go all sorts of swing gymnastics to deliver the ball. Kept drilling that all session with irons as well sticking driver in and out at random to get a course like feel and it felt lovely 🥰

Going to be several range sessions this week drilling that before I even think of getting in the course next weekend. It’s definitely a feel vs real kind of drill but it’s what I used to do and it worked well I’ve no idea why I didnt keep doing it!

Looked hilarious though it was freezing when we left home so had fleeced jumper on and roasting hot sun at the range couldn’t keep jumper on so ended up hitting balls in my gym vest I had on underneath 🤣 fortunately there were others in the same boat including Mrs M 🤣

Wait till next Saturday and I forget everything!

Friendly four-ball this morning, me and 23 handicap mate who doesn't play as often, against fellow 12 capper and 17 capper.

I started quite well with a lovely chip on the 1st for tap-in par, then five bogeys in a row - turned out to be the only bogeys I got all day. First blot was on the 8th when drive crept out of bounds by a couple of yards (very annoying as I'd driven well until then), parred with the second ball for double. Parred 9th with a nice up and down for 16 points out. Match was close at this point with not many holes won and us 1 down.

Nice birdie on par 3 10th and par on 11th turned the match around and put us 1 up. Was unlucky on the 12th as I hit a perfect drive and a well-struck 3 wood that just crept right and completely disappeared in a thorn bush so I had to blob it. Then a very stupid knifed chip and three putt brought me a double on the 13th - again incredibly annoying because I'd chipped and putted well all day. Frustrating back nine continued as I parred the par 3s on 14 and 15, then doubled the 16th with another stupid shot, knifed wedge 20 yards through the green. Then parred 17 & 18 for a 33 point 81. In the match my partner and I had "ham & egged" rather well, so he picked up the slack on my off holes and we ended up winning the match 3 & 1.

Fairly typical winter golf day to be honest, where I played a lot of good golf but got punished for the handful of poor shots I hit. Will take it though, a birdie and 8 pars is not a bad return.

Not posted here for a long while, however was fortunate the play Walton Heath new today (as a guest).
Looking good with the Autumn sunshine casting shadows, & the 4BBB game reaching the 18th.

Played with a pal in a singles Stableford open at Stoke Rochford.
Nice course and club. Joined by a member who was a really nice guy.
Weather was good but quite gusty at times.
Having played twice a week for the last few years and struggling to break 90 this year I've played twice in the last 2 months and scored 80 and 88. 34 points today and 1 over my handicap, so quite happy with golf since I'm keeping it at arms length.
Switched to midsize grips and baseball grip a couple of months ago and the difference is massive.

Royal St George's today.

Short sleeves all the way round, a caddie as a treat (and brilliant he was, too). Par on the 1st, smiles all the way round. 33 points, could have scored 14 points total it wouldn't change what a glorious day I've had. Blooming brilliant.

Wind on 16th such that my caddie handed me a 4 iron for a 143 yard par 3... and I needed it!

Ha I was also there yesterday for a significant birthday treat…perfect day and really enjoyed the course, felt very lucky and certainly beat a Tuesday at work!!

No playing but 2 full hours on the range working on hand position at address, swing plane and path trying to get back to being more one plane like I used to be. Absolutely loved it hit 125 balls, started off ropey trying to groove the feels. But sticking with it and was finding the middle of the face so much more and even with the driver hitting this nice high soft cut.

Got some weird looks doing some drill but progress is being made and the driver was going straight 😳😍. Same again for me tomorrow I think, I’m certain I can slope out of work early again for it 🤣

Hit a poor drive on the 1st this morning. Walked up to where i thought it was, eventually found it plugged, and played a reasonable shot to get back in the hole. Walk up the fairway, there is a spare ball next to my PPs. Turns out it's mine and I've played the wrong ball. Hit a decent 2nd to the middle of the green, 2 putts for what should have been a nice par, but was actually a 6 thanks to the 2 shot penalty.

That kinda set the tone for the rest of the round. Hacked it around for a very scruffy 29 points. Other highlight was playing the wrong club twice - first one I meant to hit an 8 but somehow picked up a 5 and put it miles through the green, never to be seen again. 2nd time meant to hit a 7, but picked up the 5 again, through the green again, somehow managed to scramble a par.

At least the weather was good,15 degrees, though it was quite bizarre playing in shirt sleeves in November.

It sounds like you need new glasses. Or to wear glasses.
