Seniors Match away at Cardiff today. First time I've played there. Interesting set of holes, and changes in elevation. Enjoyable course to play. Weirdly, as the course is in a suburb, and has lots of trees, the views are quite restricted so its isnt visually that appealling. But the individual holes are! (if you see what I mean!)

Played against some good guys, decent meal after too..

Lots of fun although lost 3&2

18 holes first thing this morning had me feeling that I'm beginning to come into a decent game...in time for the Club Champs. Not there yet...but I've just got a feeling. It's the hope that gets you...

Snuck out for 9 holes of practice. Hit some absolute stinkers, including complete tops on the first two tee shots. On several occasions I had a second go at a shot and executed it perfectly - how do you progress from this to getting it right the first time?? Million dollar question.

Was just starting to get the hump by the end when I hit the middle of the green from a fairway bunker with 9 iron on the 9th to finish with a par. Well a Mulligan par after duck hooking the first drive ridiculously anyway.

Played in a few opens in the past week.

Bloxwich (near Walsall) - Seniors' stableford - had a very enjoyable afternoon on this parkland course with Crow. In the main the fairways were fairly generous. As with many courses currently the fairways were fairly parched and the first green was not in great condition. That green was the exception and the rest of the greens were in good condition and fair. Would definitely play there again. Won a decanter in the raffle

Shirley (Birmingham) - medal - a nice parkland course that I have played once before and well worth a visit if you are in the area. A few water features on the front nine make it quite interesting.

Burnham & Berrow - Seniors' stableford (max 18 shots) - what a great links course and one that I would recommend anyone to play if they get the opportunity. It was fairly windy (against for the first 8 holes and downwind for the last nine) when I played yesterday. On the 2nd hole I had 110 yards left to the flag and hit 7-iron (normally that's a PW for me). Caught it perfectly and was still short of the green! I struggled as I have done all summer (mainly through getting into trouble off of the tee), but the highlight was a birdie three on the 3rd hole. The greens were fair and quick, but perfectly playable. Had a very nice and very large ploughman's style platter after the round (included in the cost). Was made to feel very welcome by everyone from the pro shop to a member who joined me for my bacon roll (also included) before the round and my playing partners (who were a club member and a member of Hayling Island).

Played in freezing weather for us, 4 degrees when I teed off, hit the ball well but chipping and putting were ordinary 7 over par so not all bad.

Made me panic and check the weather forecast. I'm 80 miles down the coast but the MetOffice is saying next to no wind here, 9mph with gusts to 15mph from the east. Looks a beautiful evening for golf, I'm looking forward to shooting in the 80's again.

I might shoot in the 80's but whether it will be the low or high 80's only time will tell !

Our senior captain's away day today at Rushcilffe GC. Not played it before but was told that it's quite hilly, it is.

Some very nice holes but others where local knowledge would be a massive help due to slopes. Greens were very good but you had to be the right side of the hole or you were in trouble. I four putted two greens the second time was down to a stab in frustration but even so...

Scored 27 points, which was a long way from being the worst score on the day.

I might shoot in the 80's but whether it will be the low or high 80's only time will tell !

Well I hit it pretty well today in what was a fairly strong wind, a couple over for the front 9 and then played holes 10 to 14, by some considerable distance the toughest part of the course in a West wind, in par, bogey, bogey, par bogey so 5 over after 14. Then we caught up with 4 Americans and it was like hitting a brick wall, the 16th tee sits directly behind the 15th green and its curtesy to wait until they tee off before playing our 2nds, we waited for 12 minutes, 10 minutes on the 16th tee and even longer on the 17th, all momentum gone and stumbled to an 84 although it will be an 82 for h'cap purposes. Holes 15 to 18 took us 10 minutes less to play than the front nine. It really was beyond a joke, I don't think they have any concept of etiquette, so annoying

Started well by sending my drive OB, then the next within 5 yards of being OB. Hacked my way down the first for a triple (adjusted double), bogied the next after duffing a 60 yard pitch shot 30 yards and bogied the third when I pulled my tee shot 100 yards left. Thought to myself what a waste of a wonderful evening.

Proceeded to then play the next 15 holes in 1 under for an adjusted 75. Hit my irons and wedges much better and the greens were far more receptive so you could actually stop approach shots fairly quickly. The new putter is still working a treat, might be my best golf purchase ever.

Sitting on 39 points and 2nd in the sweep which will likely win me nothing as there were a whopping 18 entries today. The winner is an 18 handicapper with 44 points.

Nine holes with the usual crowd this evening. Course in good nick but very firm and fiery. Even the longer par 5’s are well in range, including the 520 odd yard 4th, which I made comfortably with 3-wood, 6-iron.

Finished a couple over, could easily have been better. Great fun, with all parts of my game clicking for once.

Didn’t play myself but went to pick Jamie up from Dewsbury who was playing the midweek medal last night.

Pace was slow so when I arrived I walked out onto the course to see how he and his pp James were getting on - who absolutely munched one off the tee on 17 to about a foot. The scorecard says the hole is 399 yards…

Lad had entered the comp but not the two’s - he obviously made this one then stuck it to about 4 ft on the last and made on there as well.

Finally starting to feel like I’m playing golf again after hitting a horrible run of playing terribly earlier this year. Big change on what I feel I’m doing and it’s working for now.

Our last night for 9 holes after putting the kids to bed. Started with a bogey after needing to chip out sideways, but then played very solidly to finish +3.

On the plus side, although they were slow they were good players, when there's other groups with caddies there's Americans which usually means that balls are being sprayed around, i ended up 3 virtually new ProV1x's to the good thanks to a walk down through the rough to the right of the 14th and I've gone up by 0.5 to 7.2 so not all bad !

Starting on 10 I rattled off 6 pars on the bounce and then bogeyed the 16th after a dodgy bounce. Finished par, birdie for a level par 9 holes and 22 points.
Started the front 9 poorly.
2 poor drives and even more poor approaches saw me drop 4 shots in 3 holes..
Then I rediscovered how to play and parred the last 6...no idea what was going on on 1,2 and 3...
75 blows, +4 ( those 3 holes) and a 0.5 cut to 5.4
And all done by 8.15
