Open at Saltford (Between Bristol and Bath) today. Not been there before, what a pleasant place to play golf that is! Not long in total, but some long par 4s, super par 3s, plenty of ups and downs and great views.

Well worth the trip. We only managed 36 points better ball. Would have done much better if we'd been there before. 😁 A few places where the best line wasn't clear.

Perfect weather, lots of fun!

I'm pleased you've said this. I'm coming down to Bristol in a few weeks and this is one of our chosen courses. That's a review that makes me happy 😊

We haven't been able to book anywhere yet, bookings only allowed 7 days in advance. The plan is to play there and Kingsdown. I've spoken to them both and they've said there shouldn't be an issue but I have options ready, plan b and c, just in case. Have you played there as well?

It seems to be quite standard now, makes it hard to book trips in advance.
 
Managed to squeeze nine holes into an hour after work - you've got to when the weather's this good. Tried to really exaggerate the feeling of a short backswing - definitely felt short but I didn't take a video so impossible to check. Was probably about one inch less than normal. 😂 Fairly good results though. Definitely good striking - I tugged a few left, but then I'm so used to aiming left for a fade that they might have just gone straight where I was aiming and not faded. Nearly holed a bunker shot for birdie which I don't think I've ever done - stopped 4 inches short for a gimme par.

Ended up with a 6 over 39. Four pars, one double. Happy with that. All I need to do now is work out how to force myself to keep the backswing short when I'm playing a round that matters.
 
Society outing to Maidenhead yesterday.
Nice little course, been around since 1896 apparently...and at the end of the year they're closing so so ekne can build a few thousand houses on the site...
Crying shame....
A pretty solid round, barely getting myself in trouble, scoring 40 points along the way and taking the win.
Actually won more cash in the sweep so nearly broke even on the cost....
Missed a short one and had 3 or 4 lipouts too....could have been a belter!
 
Just got back from playing Windermere GC. A short course with no bunkers, only 5122 off the whites. I was absolutely knackered walking up the hill on 17. Plus it was blowing a gale which made it a tough day.
Some very scenic holes but my golf was dreadful (and I mean DREADFUL). Came last with 23points, second had 24 and the winner had 26:ROFLMAO: I couldn't get back in the car quick enough!
 
Shot 7 over today and it would have been my worst short game for a few years.....

We have a show out here on TV and the catch phrase is 'How good is golf'

Well today is bloody well stinks....:mad:
 
A couple of forum opinions/myths to be anecdotally addressed.

At my club on Tuesdays, there is the option of playing in a yellow tee stableford or a white tee (longer course) medal. This format began in April and will last to end of September.
The numbers choosing white/yellow were fairly evenly split to begin with. But a regular split occurs in favour of white tee medal. Yesterday it was 28/8. It appear to have settled on this type of ratio.
It is not noticeable that high handicappers prefer the stableford. Many high handicappers prefer the medal.
This goes against something I read on this forum when many expressed a preference for stableford competitions.

I came 8th out of 28 for my net level par. I got cut from 4.4 to 4.3 for achieving a 4.5 score differential which knocked off my 8th best of 5.3.

Forum belief: "Low handicappers have little chance against high handicappers in strokeplay" See below.

He is 3.2 now after exception scoring reduction of 1.0
If he had been HI 3.2 on the day - he would still have won with 68 - 4 = 64

And the results show there are more high HCs there ?
 
I just suck at golf right now.....might just take a week off.....again. I really hate it when you suck and people tell you at least you are out getting your steps in. Damn them.
 
Yesterday I went down to the Worsley Marriott to drop something off in the pro shop and overheard some chap saying, someone has dropped out we are short in our team, well not being one to pass up on an opportunity say I'm free if you are short. So I ended up dashing home to change and racing down to the 16th where they were starting in a shotgun.
It was an automobile body shop association do and I got 18 holes then was asked to stay for drinks and food, all very nice.
We played ok but the winning score in a 2 out of 4 team was 105!

I think I get it now.
The question marks were facetiously humorous rather than actual questions requiring me to answer.
If that is correct - I'm OK with it - not upset by it.

I merely thought that the mix of handicaps and the exceptional score might be of some interest - and to the WHS moaners in particular.
And the fact that even with the exceptional scoring reduction, he could repeat the score and win. This is a moan usually reserved for higher handicap players.
The preference for medal play rather than stableford seems to go against what I often read here. So I thought that might be worth mentioning.

If it’s anything like our course ( for me anyway)
I lose two shots on the yellow course and all the trouble is in range off the tee.
Off the white I can’t reach most of the bunkers so it is just as easy for me to play that.
Plus I don’t lose any shots.
 
Played this evening and I actually played decent. Really good front 9 at +1 but struggled a bit on the back with some pulls to end up +6. Should be good enough for a cut.

First round out with the new putter and I got the new putter effect as I putted really well. It might take getting used to as the 38 inch length feels a bit weird but my lag putting was excellent with it. Also didn’t miss anything from 3 foot and in for the first time in a while.

Are you locking against your arm, ie Bryson, or gripping at the top ie Adam Scott?
