I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Was going to ask how much it costs the golf club to upkeep that clubhouse but I see from the history that it's actually apartments overlooking the golf course.

Course still looks green.

Yeah it's a lovely view coming down 18

Only bad thing is it's very snobby there.. went to bar before to get lunch and got told in wrong bar. Members only.. guest bar was same bar just round the other side

Ironically packed with members and the members bar empty.

Still up itself a bit but lovely course

As per Fragger...Senior Champs.
Front 9 was bitty...a bit like my whole game right now.
Turned 6 over so only 2 left for the back 9..
Nice, curling 25 footer on the 10th from the fringe to get a 2 and some shop credit..
Should have had another on 16 but the greens were giving some funny breaks and the putt slipped by.
Was 3rd gross but now slipping back...80 was never going to be in the prizes...
Small cut..
Trialing an Elyte 7 wood in the morning..could be interesting

From the membership page on how to join, you get that impression.

"If you know two current members who are prepared to Propose and Second you for membership, you should ask the Proposer to obtain a membership application form from the Club. Proposers and Seconders need to have been Full Members of the Club for a minimum of three years. The application form, together with letters of support from the Proposer and Seconder should be returned to the Club Manager."

Nothing says stuck up and stuck in the good old days than having to get a couple of people to propose you.

My former colleague (now retired) was a member. (He since has moved to Devon) He had to go through the interview process to join as he knew nobody in the area.

Back then I think it was 5k joining fee and about 2k a year. Wonder what it is now.

Would love to join but I like the members at my place and it's a lot closer to home lol

We have that rule but it’s not enforced.
If you want to join just ask is sufficient.

It’s just some clubs havnt bothered to rewrite some outdated rules.

If the North East crew are reading this, the whole area is a dump and not worth the drive!

...right, now they've chucked their iPads out the window, I'll say I played a really good round at Dunstanburgh Castle this afternoon. Beautiful sunny day, just enough wind to impact without wrecking!!

A few quirky holes at the start, then the sea and Castle views kick in. Course in great condition, great mix of longish and short par 4s. £35 is just plain silly. Very friendly folk everywhere. Not much rough around yet, so not too taxing.

Haven't had this fun on a course in ages.

Goswick with a member on Friday. Could get used to this. 😁😁

You’ll love Goswick. Top, top quality course.

And it’s interesting to hear about Dunstanburgh Castle. It’s literally just gone on our list as a course we’re playing on our way up to Scotland in the autumn.

Wednesday open at our place tonight. Wasn't really at it. 3 putt bogey on 1 again. Ouch.
Battled through to the 6 at 1 over. Threw in a diabolical triple on the 6th. Par on 7 and a wee birdie 2 on 8. Scrappy bogey on 9.
Back 9 was bogey on 10, par 11. Bird 12. Par 13 Par 14 then round died on 15. Decent drive. Approach into the face of the bunker and made double. Missed a 4 foot birdie chance on 17 and bogey on 18 to rub salt into the wound.

7 over 78. Not the end of the world for a round a really didn't have it. Battled well truth be told.
As long as I shoot in the 70s I'm fairly happy. 😀

Open at City of Newcastle today. Remarkable course in that it is just off the old A1, about 2 and a half miles from the centre of Newcastle and yet once you walk through the clubhouse you could be in the middle of the countryside. Absolutely cocooned from the hustle and bustle of life.

Interesting course, some nice holes. Greens were oddly slow, maybe leaving the grass long to protect them from the dry weather?

Played well front 9, took 7 of my scores (4bbb). And then ........... driving went to pot, putting was rubbish. Couldn't judge the pace at all. Really flat ending, frustrating 😞.

A thumbs up for the clubhouse there. Apparently they've had a revamp and whatever was done, it's excellent. Same for the new patio area looking onto the 18th green. It would be a smashing place to be after a round.

I'll be back again, hopefully to play better.

Strokeplay comp yesterday. Played ok, but got stuck in a bunker on 2 holes, technique deserted me, took a 9 on a par 5 and an 8 on a par 3!

After the 8, carved my next drive OOB, and decided enough was enough and NR’d.

Played the next 2 holes just to try to clear my head, played them both really well, so at least finished on a positive note.

Have to say though, I do hate matchplay!

Out with CVG this morning...another chilly, brisk wind from the wrong direction....
Started with a birdie on 10 and played pretty solid golf to the turn with another birdie and 3 bogeys...
1 over, 21 points.......and I'm 3 points down because Grnadad went round in 5 over playing with 22 shots in the bag......  😲
2nd 9 was more tricky as the wind swirls more...
K was 5 over, he was 12 over
38 points to 41 and a Better Ball score of 45.....
Here's the kicker......he gets cut 0.7.....I go up 0.3 as I had my best round of the year dropping out of my 20..
6 over par, 38 points and the index goes up........it'll never feel right :ROFLMAO:

Just got back from a week in Islantilla, Spain.
Three loops of nine. Green was the easiest, blue the hardest and the yellow loop was the best.
Cracking courses but if you're not driving straight you're not scoring well.
I was awful off the tee and spent the last three days taking 5 iron off the tee.
My iron play ended up superb and the new irons are simply outstanding.
It was a great week, I just didn't score well at all.
Chipping and pitching from inside 70 yards was very poor.
I had the pleasure of meeting Micky Horswill who won the FA Cup playing for Sunderland in their famous 1-0 victory over Leeds in 1973, and what a charming guy he is, I just wish I'd had more time to chat to him.
Oh, did I mention how fabulous my irons are?

Charity day at Buxton & High Peak and our pair scored 45 points and didn't come close to a prize, despite playing really well.

Lovely day, plenty raised and a little tan to take with me to Tenerife at the weekend.

Played Goswick this afternoon, teed off at 5pm.

What a smashing club and course. Fast and running, excellent greens and great mix of holes. Played with a member who talked us through the planned changes. Sounded very good.

33 points masks the humour of 12 out and 21 back!

Would join tomorrow if i wasn't 6 hours away!🤣🤣🤣

Thought you’d like it! And 33 points is a decent return for a first knock round there, however it was compiled.

Batchworth Park for a mate's birthday round today. It's ten minutes from my house but I'd never actually played it before. Nice course, we all really enjoyed it - except for the 13th. We did not enjoy the 13th.

I had a tough start with double on the first, followed by two hard-fought bogeys, but then a couple of nice pars to steady things. On the 8th I hit an awful topped 3 wood off the tee, but the course was so hard it still ran out about 170 odd, hit a beauty of an 8 iron onto the green and made birdie. Followed that by swiping my second shot into the cabbage on the right on the 9th and made an 8. 18 points out.

Started the back nine with two nice pars, then another shocking tee shot, knifing 8 iron into the bunker, took two attempts to get out and ended with a double bogey blob. Then the aforementioned 13th... Par 5 with a wall of trees all down the right that are effectively out of bounds since it's completely unplayable. Fierce wind blowing left to right as well, and it's a tight hole, so we're effectively aiming over the left trees to try and keep it in play. I go first - the inevitable happens and I carve it right, ball gone. My mate steps up - he carves it right, ball gone. Next mate steps up - he carves it right, ball gone. Last mate keeps his in play but ends going in the crap on the right with his third shot anyway. End result was 1 point collectively for the four of us (and it wasn't me got it).

Bounced back from the two blobs in a row with a nice par on the 14th which was also a par 5. Then three bogeys and another tidy par on 18 left with a back nine of 17 points for 35 total, 88 gross. Fairly happy with that, having blobbed three holes, and another sign that I'm playing quite well at the moment. That will be a counting score now, with a small cut of 0.1 or 0.2 I think. I didn't win the birthday major outright but shared it with my mate also got 88 and 35 points off 15, same as me. I'm still counting it as a win so the grand slam of birthday majors is still on! 💪🏻

Do you struggle in the wind? You never mentioned 😉

Funny round today. Started with 4 layers on, ended with just a polo shirt. A real mixed bag of good, bad and indifferent. Lack of concentration was the big issue today and when that drifted..............

Largely played well, with the odd brain fade thrown in 🙄. Putting was much better today, don't know what was different 🤷‍♂️. Ended up with a solid 35 points so I'm happy with that.

Weird thing, from my last 4 counting scores I've had only 1 shot difference between them all. That suggests that my handicap is about right 😄

I organised a golf day with some of my old Sunday team, eight of us at Oakland Park.

Very annoying round for me. It was all pars and doubles with very few bogeys in between. And since I only get 11 shots there, a lot of those doubles were blobs. I couldn't hit irons well at all, loads of heely ones, and the course was baked rock hard, so anything slightly off line was bouncing an extra half mile into the trees. Felt like I found every single bunker on the course as well. Seven pars but six doubles and one triple. 86 gross for 28 points. Finished 3rd, but in truth only two of the others have legit handicaps and they both finished above me, and four of the eight were basically hackers we had off 36 who all got less than 20 points. So not a good return from me.

I often seem to find that when I'm playing with a different group of friends or family and I'm supposedly the 'best' player, I really want to play well in front of them, and that makes me play like a knob.
