I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

3 over in the rollup yesterday. 3 birdies but missed a few really good chances but not bothered as the greens had maintenance 2 weeks ago so will be rough for another week or so. Good enough for 2nd place so went home with coins in my pocket.

Roll up this morning. Bad start, great middle of my round, and a poor finish. 34 points, but generally fairly happy with where my game is at.

Entered the monthly medal today. Weather was a bit chilly to start with but sunny which made all the difference - bit of a nuisance wind though.

Front nine pretty good, but for an unlucky double on the 4th and a snowman on the 7th caused by taking two stabs to get out of a bunker. Managed four pars though to keep the score going. Back nine was nice and steady, no further doubles just two pars, seven bogeys. Only real annoyance was a bad three-putt on the 16th which denied me a lovely par. But I was very happy in the end with a gross 84, net 3 over.

My short game came back nicely after a horrible abomination on that front last week. Driving wasn't perfect, but kept everything in play which was good. Putting, again, much better than last week, but for the three-jab on 16. Beat my mate in the match as well 2 up after 18, so got a free lunch. 👌🏻

There was a good round coming off my handicap record which I would have needed to break 80 to beat, but this will at least be the new counting score so that's something. Will probably be off 16.2 or so by tomorrow. Highest I've been since pre-lockdown, but I know I'm playing well now, it's just this daft system that takes a while to catch up.

Poor start today with bogeys on the first 2 with both par putts missed from around 4 foot. Decided to make a change and start using the line on the ball again in a desperate attempt to change things. Worked a charm as I then had my best putting round in months. Played the next 16 in level par for a +2 overall but it was all down to putting and chipping as I hit my irons garbage. Missed a load of greens but also hit 5 chips to inside 1 foot for tap in pars.

My team lost the doubles match 1 down but we were -3 gross between us so no complaints.

I played today and for the first time in over a year I played better than 18 over par.
Would have been a really good score of 41 points if I had not played somebody else's ball.
Annoyed at myself for not checking but also annoyed at him for driving off in his buggy towards another ball on the adjoining fairway 60 yards right of where his ball was.

Worst I’ve played in months. Irons were next to useless with thin after thin. Only part rescued by some good chipping and putting.

The TSR3 continues to impress, this time paired with an old school Aldila NV55 350 shaft and what a combo it was.

But over all it was crap golf. +10 for a solid fail grade.

Putting coaching session today which was a follow up to the one I had a few weeks ago. Although I’m off 2 and putt quite well it would seem that for the last 37 years I have been doing it all wrong🤣

Likewise…posted a decent +7 and 36pts, but hit too much rubbish along the way (including a very messy double on our 10th after solid +2 front nine) to be totally happy. Anyway…wake this morning to find that my HI has dropped from 7.7 to 7.3…so my back tee CH at home drops from 10 to 9 - front tees to 7 - must have had quite a high number in my 8. So that’s good.

Texas Scramble yesterday. Fancied our chances as the 4 of us have been playing really well recently. We finished stone last 😂

None of us putted well. I put our failure down to that, but thinking about it, it was more down to approach play, we never got into decent birdie making positions in the first place. We were all playing off a similar mark (16, 16, 17 and 20). That’s not a good mix, you really need at least 1 low handicapper capable of putting approach shots close to the pin on a regular basis.

Anyway, we still had an enjoyable day, good weather and good craic.

You also need one 30 handicapper to add a few more shots for the team! I rarely ever see a scramble won without one high handicapper on the team.

Played my 2nd game yesterday, a Texas scramble. if last weeks effort wasnt bad enough. irons and putting not too bad, driver woeful. luckily i did manage find the green on 2 par threes on the front 9 and by best drive of the day on the 9th. so got my 3 drives out the way, so did not take the driver out in anger on the back 9. was exhausted driving back. going to do some stretching this week, so if its doesnt improve by next week, that might be it for me as far as golf goes

Swindle on Sunday - very boring 18 pars to give me 34 points ( off plus 2 in the swindle )

Happy with the way I hit the ball over the weekend , just didn’t sink enough birdie putts but greens a little bobbly after the work , we need a bit of warm and water to get the growth going

Good to the see the course at full length bar one hole , can tell with the social scores coming down
