Entered the Stableford to get my number of comp rounds up since they upped the amount that we need to have on record. Conditions were hellish though - mud everywhere and 30mph winds are not exactly ideal. I don't think I played too bad really, but I couldn't handle the conditions and only managed 25 points.
Tough start with two blobs in the first five holes, but also had a birdie in that. Finished the first nine fairly strongly for 14 points, but the wind just got worse and worse after that, to the point that I just had no answer for it. Our little 100-110 ish par 3 was playing straight into wind, I tried to hit an 8 iron which cut straight right and nearly out of bounds, kept in by a kind tree. Our 8th (but 17th today as we played back nine first) has a pond and OB right, I aimed about 100 yards left of that and still ended up OB.
I just can't do golf in the wind. All my swing thoughts I've been working on just go straight out the window and my instincts take over. (Instincts that are wrong.)
Oh well, another week written off. Next crap round I put in, I'll be going up to 15.8.
Same here.....it's something we have to get used to.Oddly, because our place is so exposed to the elements and is invariably extremely windy even when the local forecast suggests a light breeze, a lot of our members score worse when it’s flat calm, it’s so rare.
We’re just more used to playing in the wind than not.
The good form continued today, but remarkably the putter was on form as well. 40 points to win the roll up. One of those rare days when everything works wellBest I've played in months today, tee to green anyway. Putting was terrible though, lost count of the number of 3 putts. Happy enough with 35 points in the circumstances.
Did you post the competition score for handicap? The good form continued today, but remarkably the putter was on form as well. 40 points to win the roll up. One of those rare days when everything works well![]()
No. Got a few forward tees on, so can’t submit a GP card, however I get a 2 shot cut in our roll up.Did you post the competition score for handicap?![]()

Shaggy greens? Grass is growing??????Out with the Society today...was supposed to be at my club but we have a trolley ban currently and that would have halved the numbers.
The organiser did some quick negotiations, Ellenborough postponed until September and we got on at Wycombe Heights instead
Not my favourite course but it was open and trolleys were allowed...
Off to a blistering start with a birdie 2 at the 2nd and was going well....and then I wasn't....
Ability to make a clean strike disappeared....finished the 9 with 12 points.......
Back 9 was a bit better, had another birdie and finished with 27 points in total.
The day was won with 34 which, had I been able to put bat to ball....well, who knows.
Came away with a fiver for the 2 and a quid for each birdie to soften the blow.
Greens were shaggy, I guess they were too soft to cut, fairways soggy in places and some holes had mini lakes of standing water.
I wouldn't have let trolleys out but it's their course.....
It is down here....daffs are sprouting, even got the odd Crocus out...still bloody chilly at times thoughShaggy greens? Grass is growing??????
Hadn’t noticed there is a 15 page thread about thisSssshhhh England Golf won't be happy!

Then drove to Tenby. Blimey they've done great things to the clubhouse and dormy accommodation. Playing here in the morning.
