I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

34 points, hit it great but we played lift clean and place only on closely mown areas (ie not in the rough)…..I reckon it was worth 3 shots with difficult lies and mud balls.

Couldn't stay after golf today as I've got stuff to do but......
Started at 8.15 and home by 12.....not bad for a 3 ball..
It was a tad breezy today...I hit one short, high chip that was in the air for about 3 seconds...the wind moved it 4 1/2 yards🤣
Racked up about 28 points..we weren't really scoring just having a good old social...
Timed to perfection ae the rain hits in about half an hour....

Entered the Stableford to get my number of comp rounds up since they upped the amount that we need to have on record. Conditions were hellish though - mud everywhere and 30mph winds are not exactly ideal. I don't think I played too bad really, but I couldn't handle the conditions and only managed 25 points.

Tough start with two blobs in the first five holes, but also had a birdie in that. Finished the first nine fairly strongly for 14 points, but the wind just got worse and worse after that, to the point that I just had no answer for it. Our little 100-110 ish par 3 was playing straight into wind, I tried to hit an 8 iron which cut straight right and nearly out of bounds, kept in by a kind tree. Our 8th (but 17th today as we played back nine first) has a pond and OB right, I aimed about 100 yards left of that and still ended up OB.

I just can't do golf in the wind. All my swing thoughts I've been working on just go straight out the window and my instincts take over. (Instincts that are wrong.)

Oh well, another week written off. Next crap round I put in, I'll be going up to 15.8.

Oddly, because our place is so exposed to the elements and is invariably extremely windy even when the local forecast suggests a light breeze, a lot of our members score worse when it’s flat calm, it’s so rare.

We’re just more used to playing in the wind than not.

Same here.....it's something we have to get used to.

Best I've played in months today, tee to green anyway. Putting was terrible though, lost count of the number of 3 putts. Happy enough with 35 points in the circumstances.

Front nine 19 points and 4 x lads took the money on 20 points but my putting was dire. The worst in a long time. It was purgatory. Won the nearest first par three. Smacked it 154 to within 30” and missed the putt. I missed six decent putts on the front.
Back nine 14 points and it was painful with the putter again.

The good form continued today, but remarkably the putter was on form as well. 40 points to win the roll up. One of those rare days when everything works well :)

Out with the Society today...was supposed to be at my club but we have a trolley ban currently and that would have halved the numbers.
The organiser did some quick negotiations, Ellenborough postponed until September and we got on at Wycombe Heights instead
Not my favourite course but it was open and trolleys were allowed...

Off to a blistering start with a birdie 2 at the 2nd and was going well....and then I wasn't....
Ability to make a clean strike disappeared....finished the 9 with 12 points.......
Back 9 was a bit better, had another birdie and finished with 27 points in total.
The day was won with 34 which, had I been able to put bat to ball....well, who knows.
Came away with a fiver for the 2 and a quid for each birdie to soften the blow.

Greens were shaggy, I guess they were too soft to cut, fairways soggy in places and some holes had mini lakes of standing water.
I wouldn't have let trolleys out but it's their course.....

I had a great knock with one of our 1st teamers this morning. I've never met him before, I don't move in such hallowed and late tee times. Nice fella. Match his driving with ease. but his chipping was lesson to me. Showed me where I am missing out, as well as my putting, which I already know, but that is improving. Oh yes, and my lower back is killing me now.

Shaggy greens? Grass is growing??????

We have had seed put down on our fairways recently. Grass grows at 8 degrees plus it seems. Must say our greens in the winter are as good as a lot I have played in the summer. Complete re-seed a couple of years ago has made them play so much better in the winter. Tougher grass and firmer and downhill putts are a tad nippy.:)

Pennard today in bright sunshine. Blooming marvellous! Lost on 17th unfortunately 😕

Then drove to Tenby. Blimey they've done great things to the clubhouse and dormy accommodation. Playing here in the morning.

Absolutely loved Pennard when I played there a year or so ago. Lovely track.
