I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

We played “The Inspiration” yesterday, not overly inspiring but will need to go back in the Summer for a proper look, (price depending), greens were in good nick - my golf was very up and down and Wednesday’s lesson can’t come soon enough. The 10th summed up my game, 3w to the front edge of the green, simple pitch skulled into a bush and then a difficult one played really well.

Went out for a friendly knock with a mate this morning but came in after 8 holes. An easterly wind combined with an already low temperature made it feel Baltic. Went for a beer instead. I did manage a birdie 2 on the last hole so it worked out well.

Friendly match against my 23 handicapper mate today - giving him 8 shots. It's fair to say I played very well and he did not. Starting on the 10th, I made a fairly solid start to be 4 up after five. He got one back on the 16th but I took 17 and 18 to be 5 up at half way. He knew it wasn't going to be his day on the 2nd when he was on the green with a makeable par putt, and I chipped in for birdie! Won the 3rd as well for a 7 & 6 drubbing.

82 gross for 35 points. Driving was good - coming on leaps and bounds at long last. Even missed fairways left with a couple of accidental slight draws on the second nine - it will be a little while before I trust it enough not to aim at the left rough. 😂 Not every drive was great, but crucially they were all in play. Chipping and putting were back to being good as well, got several crucial up and downs to make my pal miserable in the match. Very pleased! Feeling confident at the moment that I can put a half-decent golf game back together this year.

I played at Todmorden with a little society I am a member of, Tod is a 9 hole course on the hills outside the town and even though we played the first 9 in very misty conditions, it was very enjoyable and I think it would be a lovely course to play in the summer. My golf was very steady for the first 12 holes but then i forgot how to hit my woods and had a terrible last 6.

Played today in a Vet's comp, hit 13 fairways, the one I missed was just off on a par 5, hit 4 iron gap wedge to three feet and missed it....hit all four par threes, all make-able putts and missed the lot, had 36 putts, 2 one putts and 2 three putts on a course where I love their greens, frustrated is an understatement.

So 78 off the stick and I'm not happy, cannot imagine what the Pro's go through.

Nice knock yesterday. Eleven pars, which is a record for me in a single round. We're not going to mention the winter set-up with a shortened course and a handful of temporary greens with bucket holes. Let's just focus on the eleven pars. :)
That old phrase "you can only beat what's in front of you" springs to mind. (y)

A load of us are playing the Winter Open at Porthcawl tomorrow so we all came down today and managed to arrange a little winter package at Southerndown GC

£50 for bacon roll and 18 holes

Very very good course , excellent value . Some interesting holes , greens were superb

Very enjoyable round

Good knock on Sunday. Putter was on fire. Took the back nine with ease, which combined with a steady effort on the front 9 gave me overall. Not a huge pick up but it's nice to win. I'm now off 6 in our swindle. I'm only turned up twice!

Played an open Stableford via Howdidido on my way from Herts to Notts. Joined by a pal; a couple of strangers made up our four. Lovely fellas.
Stoke Rochford, 10 miles south of Grantham, right on the A1 was very convenient for my journey.
Really lovely club and course in great condition for February. My first round with an electric trolley and a full(ish) set of clubs since October.
I would imagine it's stunning in the summer. I'd definitely recommend it.
30-something points on a course I didn't know wasn't too disappointing.
