I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Blimey that was cold. 6 layers on but the wind was biting 🥶. First time playing for 3-4 weeks but my ball striking was surprisingly good. Putting was tricky, partly because the greens were quite hard and bobbly, partly because it was too cold to stand still and concentrate about putting.

I walked in after 9, it wasn't fun and as a grown adult I'm allowed. The remaining 2 were happy to carry on and could mark each other's cards so no harm done.

Was freezing, but my mate joined a new club, so we braved the conditions, with 4 layers and bobble hat. Hands were blue for first few holes.

Three holes closed and the rest of the course pretty muddy, but the biggest peeve was driving off a mat. That said, turned in a cracking score and stuffed down a nice breakfast.

Foursomes match this morning. They wanted to get out before 8, so I felt a bit rushed sorting myself out and getting there - didn't get any warm-up putts either. It took me about 5 holes to get into it - we were already 3 down by that point and with it being foursomes I'd only hit about 3 full shots. We started playing better from the 6th, and actually won 7, 8 and 9 to get back to all square, then promptly lost the next three in a row to be 3 down again - 10th and 11th they played a couple of world class shots. That was how it stayed and we ended up losing 3 & 2.

It really hits home how difficult it is to 'play your way in' to a foursomes match when you don't really get enough shots and opportunities to do that.

As the weather was fantastic and we felt bad about losing, me and my partner went straight out for another round. Despite tripling our second hole (11th as we started on 10), I went on a run of six pars in a row from 16th round to the 3rd, and absolutely battered him 7 & 6. It was nine pars in total for me and a round of 80 - my best round in over a year I think. My driving and putting were just miles better than they were in the foursomes.

Stupid. Bloody. Game.

Weather was good here, but time is short as my wife is recovering from some surgery and the boy needed new school shoes. So I went to the range and had a simulator round of the course. Which is all good practice to be honest as it adds shot distance variance.
Having not hit a ball for a while it was okay and the simulator score was 15 under … if only !?! I still love the driver

Out with Fragger after lunch....course was busy, probably because tomorrow is going to awful weather by 11 or 12....
Front 9 took 2 hours..about 35 mi uses longer than it should have but there you go....whipped around the back 9 in 90 minutes...
I was leading the Old Boy 16-13 at the turn...himself playing his usual up and down game while I was pretty solidly steady.
Got to the back 9 and Fragger just exploded out of the blocks...bearing in mind he gets 29 shots, after 5 holes of the back 9 he was 1 over gross....4 pars and a bogey on a double shot hoke - 17 points from 5 holes...Mental
I just kept plodding along, birdied 11, 2 bogeys and the rest pars.....
So 1 over for me on the back 9 for 21 points, 37 in total, 77 blows or 6 over......and a 0.4 cut to 6.2 thank you very much....
Fragger?
Finished triple, par, triple, quad to mess things up and go up 0.2....
An unexpected victory for the single figure Guy after the high handicapper's blistering start to the back 9....

35 points, which included 2 blobs, 4 x 7/1. 1 x 8/1 and 6 gross pars

Definitely a game of 2 halves John 🙄

Ok so last week I was absolutely dreadful. Went out this week hoping things would feel better... and a started with a really good birdie! Fantastic, I thought...

Next hole, topped four shots in a row and picked up. Blobbed 6 of 18 holes. Had about 5 topped drives that totalled 100 yards between them. 13 points at the turn, finishing on 19. It honestly felt like I'd never played the game before, it was so bizarre.

Oh and I had a drive that we all saw land in the fairway and yet we couldn't find it. That was one of the blobs. So that's just great.

Just back from a most pleasant round by the sea at Seaton Carew - got a soft spot for the course and scored ok considering cobwebs needed blowing away and the wind seemed determined to do that.

After being closed yesterday, went down for 9 holes this afternoon. All temps with lots of debris on most of the big greens. Wasn’t really interested in score, didn’t put out on most holes but was nice to be out in the fresh air.

Bloody cold though, must have been -3 in the wind.

OK, OK..... so it wasn't today that I played but it was just yesterday that I realised that in last weekend's Burn's Trophy I, with 40pts........ played to My Age, WHS style ie an adjusted Gross of 77 (11 pars, 2 birdies & a 'Net double bogey' Blob)
I guess I may manage a Gross version, should I manage to remain fit & able BUT... currently it's the nearest I can get!! Still chuffed as it also won the Trophy by 3pts!!!!

22 points front nine and 20 on the back nine. And once more I threw half a dozen away. Most pleasing part, a PP let me know I was 1 point behind after being two in front at the turn when we were stood on the 16th. It was a hole I had 2 shots on. 110 from the pin I put it to 15 ft and dropped it in 4 for 4. Beat him by 2 and drew for the overall win with £27.50 in Tashyboys back pocket. The guy who mentioned he was a point in front. He said after the round, “ the lads have been saying you are driving it well but it’s not 20 yds further it’s 50-70 yards.
Happy days at the moment. Ave won £68.40 in 2 weeks and currently lead the winnings board. More chuffed about the fact am playing to a good standard not winning brass.

Nice playing. However, your score is entering the oft-reported range of suspected handicap "adjustment".

Another hot day, started bogey par birdie so thought I was back on track, but after hitting plenty of good tee shots, the irons to the green let me down, had 30 points and not sure how I achieved that many, first thing I did after golf was to have a cold shower to bring my body temperature down.

Have cancelled golf tomorrow as it will be hotter then today, will play twilight golf on Friday, a 9 hole comp and then it is supposed to drown to 35C on Saturday for an 18 hole stableford.

This is the very very odd thing.

When I finally worked out what was wrong with my driving. The first game back from my hols was a team comp. I shot 44 points. The only money we dragged was £18 when another PP got a nearest the pin.
Last Thursday I shot 45 points and smashed it. However I found out they were only paying out for first and second place instead of front nine, back nine and overall.
The format is if you win any thing ( apart from a nearest the pin) you get dropped a shot. If you don’t win anything in four rounds you get a shot back. I am one game away from going up to 25.

This is the odd thing. The last two fuddles we have played. The lads have decided not to drop shots if you win because there has only been 11 of us. Guess who has won both times 😳
I did say in the clubhouse yesterday that it don’t sit right with me winning money and not getting dropped a shot and would be more than happy to lose a shot, but what about the other guy who dragged money. His face was an absolute picture.

Looking forward to tomorrow. It’s four club challenge. First one I have ever played. Decisions decisions. 🤔

Me finks, driver, 5 wood, PW, and putter. Me putter is on fire, 27 putts yesterday.

Does your group have its own handicapping system?

The start of the summer season, or the Q comp start date. You start off your official handicap and it then goes up or down from there. To be honest am not to sure when the Q comp season will start this year as our place has been up running mops through the winter. 👍

Was due to play Berkhamsted today with @AddisonRoad and couple of ex forumers but it was closed until 11 so Ashridge were kind enough to let us sneak on during the members roll up as it was very quiet

It’s a very generous course with the protection being the greens but due to the rain where very receptive- some very good golf out there with 3 * 37 points and a 36 , despite having 3 birdies and an eagle we still lost the match 😂
