I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Went to the course to try the new driver. Jumped onto an empty back nine and just bashed balls off various tees for two hours. Tried various swing speeds and stances. Long and, some, very straight. Others were only a tad offline. Initial thought was that it is a good purchase!

The rating system is a joke, but this has already been discussed elsewhere.

If you think the rating system at your club is a joke how does it compare to the SSS pre WHS?
Ours barely changed 0.8 difference for whites, 0.4 yellows, 1.2 reds (all increases).

Given the time between the two being done not surprised to see some difference given the changes in the course in that time.

I never looked at or cared what SSS was, I had absolutely no idea what it was for. I don't believe it affected me in any way. I also think I joined my current club after WHS came in anyway, so no experience of it before.

SSS (Standard Scratch Score) was what your handicap was based upon not par.*
Handicap alterations were based upon the CSS (Competition Standard Scratch) a comparison between the actual scores in a comp and the SSS

This used to be the biggest mistake players made re handicap . They used to compare their score against par rather than the SSS/CSS. Where I play shooting to scratch meant a score of 3 under par off the whites so with my then handicap of 6 I was expected to go round in 3 over par.

Today is the story of my life re golf. Shot the round of my life over the last couple of years. 23 points front nine, 21 back nine with four bloody lip outs. And guess what, we played a team comp, best 2 from three. All to score on par fives and we dragged nowt 😖 the flipping golfing gods some days just mock you.
Re my driving, I am a flippin machine at the moment 😳
