I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Played Worlington & Newmarket today.

Hickory foursomes match again to Sunningdale rules, different partner to yesterday, we won 2 up but the team lost.

Course was surprisingly wet still with a lot of bunkers underwater and GUR. Playing off mats too, which wasn't expected.

Still an enjoyable round though, lunch was gammon, roasties and veg followed by an excellent bread and butter pudding with custard.

Then went out again with my partner for the day for another 9 holes, playing singles.

Out at first light for 9 with @Imurg
First round since mid November owing to injury.
Wasn’t expecting much, in fact was anticipating a horror show.

The first went as expected. Then it started to improve, lovely straight long drive on the 3rd and finished the 4th on 5 points

Then 2 consecutive pars on 2 shot holes added 8 points to the total, much to little bro’s chagrin.

A sloppy 1 point on the 7th and 2 points each on the last 2 for 18 points
Which was very very pleasing.

@Imurg played like a demon knocking in pars all over the place. Very steady indeed

Watch out World, Fragger’s back 😎

Great that you managed 9, hope you are fully recovered. Son be giving 'the young'un" the usual whipping.

When I read Fragger's back I thought you were returning to Mod duties!

Played yesterday, first time on the course for two weeks. Two over after 14 and then managed to implode on 15 and 16 and dropping 5 shots on those two holes. 😭

Got out yesterday for the first time at my home course since Christmas. It's very exposed and we had a 30mph cross wind on most of the holes.

Birdied the first after a decent drive and stiffing a PW to 3inches - never a good sign!

Was level through 5 and thinking I was onto a good round but then normality resumed and I trebled the 6th, and doubled the 7th - after that I was stuck on the bogey train but I think my head had just gone a bit.

Good to be back out though, Cleeve Hill on Tuesday and looking forward to that!

Just back in from my round, definitely a tale of two halves. +13 on the front 9 and +1 on the back 9. Just left my game in the car I think.

Greens had been top dressed and that’s the worst I’ve seen them since I joined in October but that wasn’t the reason for my garbage round.

My first experience of a real windy day as well on that course, 30mph wind and had holes with, into and across. Was a good learning experience that I’ll need to get used to.

Absolutely terrible this morning. Driver and hybrids have been great over the winter, today both were malfunctioning. Hit a few good ones, but haven't hit so many really bad shots for a long time.

14 holes open, blobbed 6 of them. 21 points from the remaining 8 holes. That's a pretty good reflection of how up and down I was today.

It's always better to start crap and finish well, rather than the other way about.

Should have played yesterday
Was baltic up there
2-3 club wind
Back 9 played real tough

But we all enjoyed it👍

Though I've never seen standing water (ponds) on the course ever
Shows how much water really has come down last 6 months or so

I've been dying a slow death of tonsillitis or flu or something this week, but I still dragged myself out this morning as it looked like some rare nice weather was on the cards, and it was. I was playing with an old football mate who's now my plumber, first time I'd played with him. Off 26, although when he parred our first hole with no fuss at all I was ready to ask questions. 🤣

I thought I played alright but my gross score of 95 says otherwise. Oh well. I was hitting driver superbly well, best I have in a long while. I could barely hit a successful iron all day though which probably accounts for the poor score. Fatted most of them, at least I didn't shank any though which is positive. Good lag putting, just didn't hole much. My mate just pipped me with 25 points to my 24 as I blobbed our last. But we had one of those nice leisurely slow-paced rounds with lots of chatting as I hadn't seen him in a while, so very enjoyable. Not going to complain about my score this time when I've been at death's door for four days.

Out for a 7:54am tee time today with three other mud-warriors.

4 weeks since I last played and I was 5-over after 4 holes. 😞
Did the next 14 in 2-over with one birdie and almost looked like a golfer. 😊
Getting very cheesed off with the mud. Greens were OK though. Four single putts on the back nine, one of them a birdie, saved my score.

Nice walk with the rackets today in some lovely gusty winds. The misses didn’t tell me she’d put the putter in the freezer last night but none the less crossed the line with 39pts. Oh what could have been!

Played Houghton today. Started in rain, ended in a strong wind. Hard work at times but finally got the better of a couple of holes that had annoyed the hell out of me for the best part of 2 years. An opening hole birdie and a satisfactory score of 84, given the conditions. Early signs that the course is firming up, fairways had been mown and the ball was actually running.

Baltic this morning as well, Metoffice said 7 degrees with feels like 1. My ears were cold even through my big woolly Adidas pompom hat. On 14 (11 on normal course) I had to hit driver and 3 wood to get there and it was only 370 yards. Last week I hit driver then wedge into it. At the next par 3 I had 146 yards and hit a 5 iron that came up 10 yards short. Was blowing a bit. 😂

Believe it or not, those standing ponds are actually quite a bit smaller than they were 2 weeks ago, it looks like it’s finally starting to drain.

Also, thought the greens weren’t great today, nowhere near the standard they have been all winter. Much slower today, couldn’t get the ball to the hole.

Yes, it would have been nice if somebody had told us all about the new lake on the 6th, before we teed off.
2 of the lads were defenitely in there.
The pro could have mentioned that

Never holed a putt all day, but not blaming the greens, just nice to be back out again, my 1st round of golf since october🙄

Having played like an idiot on Thursday, I actually played some decent golf today, just not for 18 holes! +4 on the front, including missing from 18 inches on 9. Level par after the 13th and playing the back 9 nicely until a sloppy bogey on 14 and then an awful double on 15 with another short putt missed, bogey on 16 then picked up on 17 after losing one off the tee and then thinning a wedge into no-mans land.

Some good signs ahead of Spring!
