I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Fifteen holes open, carry only. Managed 35 points to win the pot but the back 5 really shouldn't be open. Got away with murder but money is money and won £75 but the round the winner has to by cost £52 so not a huge win but every little helps

Hitting the ball better than your range session the other day then

Played yesterday (the links course I'm a member of) and it was still wet underfoot in places, still huge ponds on some of the fairways and fairway protection is now in place for March to let the course get ready for the start of the season in April. I played well from tee to green (15 GIR) but putting was horrendous, couldn't make a thing and it wasn't the fault of the greens which were great for this time of year and the conditions we have seen. Ended up shooting +4 which sounds good but you have to take into account it's the winter course just now and only 5000 yards long. Lots of 30-60 yard pitches into par 4's, a few short par 3's and no par 5's.

Needless to say the parklands course was shut again like most in the area. Someone was saying in the clubhouse last week that they counted that the course had been closed for over 80 days since the start of the season in April.

We're booked in next Friday in 1 of their winter opens👍

Few days to dry out a bit hopefully

Greens are good and fairways are mostly dry. The huge ponds are in places that you shouldn’t really be hitting it.

With fairway protection on now but the first cut isn’t much different from the fairway anyway.

Given the weather this week Hindhead was incredibly good. The low points of the valley holes were a little soggy but couldn’t complain.

10th tee start and +3 for the back 9. Duffed chips on 10 & 17 and it could easily have been 2 shots better.

Held it together for holes 1-4 and then hit a major speed wobble on 5. Frustration got the better of me and finished +11

9/13 FIR 9 GIR 37 putts 😂💩

Endured Sharpley today. Those who have played there will know what is coming next. Tick the following off the bingo list. Too many people there/muddy tees/hackers churning the place up/endless waits on the tee/idiots firing balls when people are in front of them etc etc. However, it was the only place dry enough for miles around. Shot 83 including a bizarre 8 on the par 5 17th - still can't quite work out what went wrong there. Please can we have better weather soon.

First comp of the year today, down to 12 holes due to the weather but was very happy to get out regardless.

Teeing off at 9, we got the worst of the frost, an annoying 3 putt bogey on the first was followed by a frozen bunker blob on the 2nd but from there I was ridiculously solid. Got a birdie on the 7th and had a good chance at another couple.

Ended up with 28 points and what looks like a 10th place finish out of 120 players.

Yep, totally agree
I used to enjoy a game there
But alas, I doubt I will ever pay to play there again after our last visit, last summer.
Ending with us walking in after 13 holes.
( closer to clubhouse)
Q at 1st tee, as stated above, full of beginners with no idea, 2 ball in front point blank refuse to let us thru at any cost, got to 10th to find 3 other groups, due to a huge society at 1st the lass in bar told a couple groups to go off 10 as they'd waited that long🤬
Condition is average to poor now
Greens which used to be great are now just full of pitch marks due to the type of golfer that frequents the place.
After walking in, got back to clubhouse
The lass inside remembered us and remarked, wow you lads were quick.....ermmm no we weren't, we've walked off it was so slow
Give her her due
She immediately called a greenkeeper to go and act as ranger and try sort the bottleneck and pace of play, also offered us free lunch....sarnie and drink

But we still won't return
Shame

We nearly walked off after 9 but persevered. Starting at 11.30 we thought at least we will get 18 in before dark. 2 lads mysteriously turned up out of nowhere behind us on the 10th and annoyed the hell out of us until they left after 16. We were convinced they hadn't paid. The round took nearly 5 hours. I'll continue to use the driving range as it is near and good. But we are done there. Give me plodging around the mud at South Moor any day.

Played the Red course at the Berkshire today. Like Hindhead, a tad wet on the low parts of the course, had to play mats off the fairways but the greens were incredibly good considering the weather of late.

Got out yesterday, sort of society day and the call (a good one) was for a scramble. Course was booked quite a few weeks ago - fully expecting a cancellation but no.

Strangely no temp greens and some pin placements at the back of the green allowing people to walk all over them. Some of the greens were like a creme brulee you could literally tap your foot on top and the ground would wobble. Fairways had areas where mud was over the shoe !!

Good day, funnily enough nice weather and with enjoyable company. We seemed to work well as a group despite not playing together before as we covered each others bad shots but my god it was a slog - our group came in with 52 points and came third.

I played a new course yesterday Mellor and Towncliffe, quite a short course, only 5812 off the back tees, 5175 of mine, also a bit lobsided 2233 against 2942, I was told it was hilly , but it wasn't too bad than straight up, only really 3 or 4 holes where you went uphill and then more across than up, although you came back down all in one hole.
I enjoyed playing it even though it was quite wet. It weas nice to think about which iron to hit for my 2nd shot instead of which wood, sadly my putting was a bit off and several 3 putts messed things up a bit

Better than the weekend, seemed to feel like I had more energy, maybe I wasn’t quite over the flu last week.

Another 10th tee start, straight out the car onto a difficult par 3 and chunked it 😂 ropey start but once I warmed up I was playing well ended with 3 birdies.

8/13 FIR 11 GIR 32 putts for a 74

Makes a huge difference when you hole a few putts. Annoyingly, 2 3 putts on the card.

Misty start and the Greenys were spiking and top dressing greens so we decided to not put a card in.
Had we known the back 9, where we started, nadnt been "done" we'd have put a 9 hole card in.
As it is I turned 1 over with 21 points...but due to the CR/Slope I only get 2 shots on that 9 so there would have been no cut.
Played solidly, did most things well, everything else adequately.
Got to the 1st and the fun started....greens were a lottery and many, many short putts were missed due to spikes and sand.
We stopped counting strokes and just played...
Hopefully they'll have settles down by tomorrow or Friday...
Course is firming up surprisingly well.

Got out at Pleasington yesterday with a couple of lads from work - one of whom had never played on a course before and the other off 20.

Said I'd play them off scratch with them playing as a scramble, thinking it should still be an easy enough free pint at the end.

The "20 handicapper" absolutely blew me away single-handedly. I realised I was up against it when he smashed one straight down the middle on the 2nd, missed the green with his approach but stuck a really tricky pitch shot over a bunker to about 2 feet for par - and then stiffed it to about 3 feet from 160 yards on the shortened 3rd (playing as a par 3). He ended up with 3 birdies over the 14 holes open!

Think his lessons over winter have paid dividends.

in his defence he was most apologetic whilst supping his free Moretti after the round 🤣

I didn't play badly really but I never got it level after the first hole. Ironically around the greens was the best part of my game despite having barely had a chip or putt since October.

Midweek rollup yesterday. Kept a clean card and had 4 birdies. Nothing worse than a 4. Picked up the money.

14 holes open today. 1-12 wet in places, but not too bad. 13 and 14 both absolute bogs. I cannot understand why they continue to open holes which are just totally unplayable. Both holes were on temps, so nothing enjoyable about either of them, other than hitting decent drives on both.

Had a bit of a meltdown on 2 holes where my swing totally deserted me. Other than that, played decent enough for 28 points. And it stayed dry.
