I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

When I go into one of my regular slumps I just switch to the Manuel de la torre method. Swing the club back with the hands and forward with the arms. Dosnt go particularly far but it goes straight pretty much every time.

One £50 lesson has completely ruined my life. 😂

I feel your pain.

View lessons as a process, not individual sessions. I made the mistake years ago of having lessons when I was already perfectly happy with my game. I reached a point after three or four where that game unraveled in the most horrific way. I had no clue what I was doing, or where the ball was going. And because I quit the process at that point I was in the golfing doldrums for years. And I mean years.

After a lot of hard work, and the occasional lesson since, I have got my game back to where I’m thoroughly enjoying golf again. My swing is not perfect, but I know what works for me, and if I start slapping it everywhere generally I’ve got an idea why.

What I should have done all those years ago, of course, is continued the process and trusted the lessons I was having. But like most golfers I wasn’t prepared to get worse in order to get better. Instead I blamed the pro in question for ruining my game when the reality was it was entirely my fault for not really understanding the changes he was making and putting my faith in them.

Best advice I can give you is to get your game to a level where you are happy and enjoying golf and then stick with it. Whilst many can get to scratch, the majority of us can’t - we have a level which is naturally ours, one which we may struggle to improve upon.

Don’t despair!

I did, but maybe he didn't get the memo. 😆 Or I sometimes wonder if he thinks it should have been an easy fix and I'm just too crap to get it right.

I might have missed it but did you detail what went on in the lesson?

He has your stance and posture looking much better but I did hear you mention what he wants to see in the actual swing.

That was my post after the lesson. So full of misplaced hope. 😆

Any changes from lessons i have had in the past has always taken a few months to ingrain.

Now i just grip and rip and dont let my score bother me, whatever the number is on my scorecard is really irrelevant.

I enjoy the exercise and playing golf with different blokes in our swindle of 30+ blokes. It's a good craic.

Pretty much all what he said is sound. He's right you have the stance and set up nailed but you aren't doing the swing part from those videos you posted.

You really aren't a million miles away.

This drill here will sort you out.

Decent 78 today, +1 after 9 but hit a few sloppy iron shots and the short game wasn’t great today, so +7 total, course was ok in general but I suspect will be closed for a couple of days after tonight’s rain.

After being 5up after 5 against my mate, he bought it back to all square, a win on 16 and then his chipping failing under pressure on 18 meant I held on for the win, and I go 2-0 up in our season long match play.

I played today and stood on the 6th tee at +1 for my round.
Stood on the 8th tee at +10 for my round
Many lessons to learn.
Chief among them, it is more important to hit the ball the requisite distance, than to worry about the number on the bottom of the club

This needs more info....
Imagine your driving along at 70 quite happily when all of a sudden all 4 wheels come off the car!

Was playing well striking the ball pretty well, par on 1 missed birdie by inches, missed green on 2 to green side chipped to about 8ft missed the par putt, pars on 3 and 4, 5th is a tough par 3 up hill into wind about 200, played 3w as there is no run at the moment and hit the green, comfy 2 putt par.
Walk to 6 tee feeling confident, and topped driver, 6 at our place is not somewhere you want to top driver as there is a ravine in front which for some reason has white OB stakes rather than red/yellow, but I digress, given it’s just off the front of the tee box, it’s a reload, so I reloaded aaaand topped my next tee shot🙃. So I reloaded, again, hit a nice tee shot, hit a fat 8i short, chipped and 3 putted from all of 25ft for a 10!
Walked to 7 tee put the last hole out of my mind, hit a pull with driver into trees but not huge trouble, had a path to the green that involved a 5i raking draw round some of the trees, or an easy punch out to fairway and a wedge of some description in, head was obvious not clear as I went for the raking draw, the ball did not draw, went straight into trees at the other side of the fairway, then oddly without much backswing tried to sort of flop an 8i out over the 2 green side bunkers which in my mind was going to land on the green and roll out to the pin, it didn’t do that, it hit the face of the 2nd bunker and rolled back in. One bunker shot just out and a chip later I 2 putted for a 7.
I did par 8 and 9 though

This kind of speak just annoys me after a while. (Not aimed at you, everyone says it.) Why shouldn't you expect a pretty quick improvement after paying out £50 for someone to supposedly improve your swing? And wouldn't you improve from hours of practise anyway, even if you didn't have the lesson?

Unfortunately it takes those hours of practice to make that new swing your "natural swing" - as someone else said, practice makes permanent.

I had lessons early last year and it's only really now, through putting in a lot of range/sim time this winter, that I'm starting to feel it as more natural - nearly 10 months since having the lesson!

What I found is that, when your only practice is on the course, it becomes too easy to fall back into your natural swing after a bad one.

When you're at the range the process needs to become more important than the result and when the process is right the results will come. Whereas on the course the result is everything which is why i think its so easy to fall back into what you know.

For me, having seen how good the end result could be from the shots I was hitting by the end of lesson, I knew it was worth persevering with.

As we are carry only today I was only going to play 9 with a mate's son but it turned into a cracking afternoon we played all 18
Just a half set in the bag and I came off with 37 points , 77 blows in total(+6)
Quite pleased with that as it was pretty breezy towards the end.
Had to hit a lot of approach shots with my 5 hybrid, either full or choking down....worked quite well..
Nearly slam dunked my tee shot on the 10th..pitched 3 inches away amd spun back 6 feet....
Missed the putt of course..... :ROFLMAO:

A great afternoon on the course following a constant 12 hours rain, a great laugh with plenty of banter to round 38pts with 3 very silly doubles. Seems like the swing changes are slowly bedding in.

What a day yesterday. We made the amazing drive up through Glencoe and Fort William to Arisaig, where we played the fantastic little 9 holer Traigh, pronounced Try.

The drive itself was awesome, so similar to the drive we did to Lofoten a couple of years back. Just worth it for the drive alone.

The course is fabulous, set around a white sandy bay on the coast and plays up and a round a hill with wetlands. A tough little track with some challenging holes, especially with no card, no directions and no hole or yardage markers…. That said, it’s a brilliant little track and well worth the trek to get here.

Didn’t play my best but it didn’t matter as the whole experience was too good.

The trip was a weekend break away to Glencoe with Mrs Wedge. The clubs only got packed last minute at her suggestion and her comment after the round were “I’m so glad we brought the clubs” 😇😇

The most scenic golf course I've ever played.
