I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

I nearly reached another milestone yesterday. First trouble is, it is a downhill road.

I was within one shot of breaking 100, second trouble is, that extra shot would have made it 101 :ROFLMAO:

wasn’t the back 9 that got me today in the mid week stableford comp

Had 37 points

Blobbed 2 holes and one was from the middle of the fairway with 120 yards in absolutely soul destroying

38 won as well

But it’s good enough to get my handicap index to begin with a 9 again which was the season goal

A trip over the Pennines today took me eventually (traffic was horrendous) to Wheatley near Doncaster for a lady's open.

Wheatley is a nice layout although sadly the fairways were not in great condition, a throwback from the very dry summer, the greens were good though. It is a long course over 5800 from the reds, there are 7 par 5s, several over 440yds plus a 400 yard par 4 so it was quite quite a slog.

My game was very mixed, I had 2 double and 2 triple bogeys in the first holes, but the I settled down and played steadily with a couple of pars and a nice birdie on one of the par 5s, My putting was decent although I did miss a tiddler on the last.

All in all it was worth the 2 hour drive and we all enjoyed the course, a nice halfway house and lovely buffet when we finished made it excellent value at only £35.

Jesus, that's a lot, I thought the max was 54. 😱

Out yesterday with CVG and....
Well, if I said I putted like Fragger I'd be being unkind...
Completely lost the pace and line on virtually every green....
How I came in with 30 points is a testament to how decent the rest of my game was....
Index back up 5 now.......

I played in an open yesterday at Goswick with @PaulMdj . Seniors open but off the whites still . Come on guys, we are seniors, throw us a bone.

Anyway, Goswick is a top course, open qualifier. Condition was excellent. Fairways were pretty scalped but that could just be a links thing rather than the dry summer.

It was the worst I've played all year, at a course where you need to be at your best ☹️. I was directionally challenged but also did not hit the ball as cleanly as I have been all year. Hugely disappointing. The weather didn't help, it rained for much of it although it definitely lightened off for the back 9, but really it was me.

The only decent golf came towards the end when @PaulMdj mentioned how my alignment was wonky, not just that it was but how it was. That slight correction made a huge difference and I managed to start striking the ball better again. Alignment is a definite weakness and his suggestion is one I need to remember and work on. I finished with a par on the last, a short, risk reward hole for bigger hitters but a short par 4 for regular people, especially as the wind was slightly into at that point. Decent drive, lovely strike on the approach to about 8ft, nice putt leaving about 6" to finish off. At least I could walk off with a nice memory there 😄.

Terrible score but a good day with good company.

we had a foursomes comp today, first nine I was awful, duffed a couple of shots that I usual hit well, struggled with our very slow greens we only managed 13 points, all in in all poor, happily I improved considerably on the back nine as did our score, 18 points.

Texas Scramble today at Wilton Castle near Redcar. I’d never heard of the course until a couple of weeks ago when one of our members played it and was raving about it.

Really nice parkland course with some lovely holes and tricky greens. Great value at £12 a head. Weather was decent and some great views of the countryside and the nearby ICI works 😀

As a team, we all played well, and were sitting second when we left.

That’s our last open of the year, it’s been a great spring/summer/autumn - played Seahouses, Hexham, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, Alnwick Castle, Haltwhistle, Rothbury, Westerhope, Longhirst and Ponteland. None of them bucket list courses but all enjoyable in their own way.

- edit : forgot to include Bamburgh Castle and Slaley Hall, how did I forget them? 😀

I took my set of Mizuno M)32's tot he indoor sim last night, as I will be taking them to Spain next week.

Bought dirt cheap from GCFC and never hit, so thought I better try! 3-PW with brand new grips for just over a hundred quid.

I was REALLY surprised how well I got on with them and for the cost, will leave them there (mates apartment). Hiring is expensive and the clubs tend to be naff, so although I will borrow a manky old driver, putter and maybe a fairway/hybrid, at least I have the main stuff already. I'm taking a box of balls because I'm tight and literally have loads, a glove and some tees/divot tool/marker/watch.

My mate has a bag he's taking, so stuffing another set of old Ping G20's in there in exchange for him paying the airline cost of taking them over.

I played there a few times during a visit to Middlesbrough on HMS Jupiter back in 1990. We were given courtesy of the course for the week. From what I remember it was a nice track.

Greenkeepers Revenge scramble. Somehow the greenkeepers managed to install 50mph gusts of wind as well! But it wasn't quite as bad as I feared, the gusts were very much intermittent, so you just had to wait a minute for it to die down and time your shot perfectly. 😆

We performed pretty well. Birdied our starting hole but this was a bit of a false dawn as we were mainly pars with a few bogeys after that. We had no trouble getting our 4 tee shots per player in as everybody stepped up when they needed to. Unfortunately we all missed the tricky downhill two footer on our third-from-last hole (par 5 8th) so carded our 4th bogey of the day that put us 3 over gross - but followed this up with a fantastic eagle on the following par 5 9th - with me draining an unbelievable 30 foot putt from just off the left side of the green! Parred the last for one over gross - team handicap was 9 so left us on nett 60.

This was only good enough for joint 3rd in the end, with the winners getting nett 58. There were two or three putts that just got away for us, but joint 3rd out of 27 teams is pretty solid so can't complain. No idea what the winners handicaps were so I can't bitch about them receiving 17 shots or whatever just yet. 😂

On a personal note I was really pleased with my driving - some of you will recall the thread I made a while ago about how I couldn't keep driver in play when it was windy, but today it was as windy as it gets and I didn't lose a single ball off the tee. Testament to how far my game has come this year.

My chipping was dog💩 though. Kept lifting my head and thinning it for some reason. Very annoying given that I had my chipping ok since the lesson I had, this was back to square one.

Not hit a ball for 3 weeks and then played in today’s wind. It didn’t end well. Shot a 12 over and had a low one (2.1) dropping off so I’ll probably go up 0.1. At least I had a two 😁 and it didn’t rain.

35 points for me today was nowhere near as tough as I thought it would be the wind seemed to swirl and didn’t have many directly into the wind thank god
