Good little knock this morning , was amazed at the standard of the course , greens lovely and true - played a match with my mate from the scratch team - he went round 1 under and I was level but I snuck a win on the last. Bit windy out there though.

A Bristol track. Which one? Plenty of windy ones - Filton is top of a hill...especially

Opposite to what I thought today.
Some shocking long game shots ,topped 3 drives can’t remember last time I did that.
But my short game was great and my putting.
Really enjoyed my nine holes.
Felt like I had someone else’s swing and he hadn’t practiced much.
Roll on Friday.
Great organisation from the club as well.!

I phoned club to book round for weekend (normally, you can just turn up). Whilst on the phone, I ended up booking: Tonight, Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, next Saturday, next Sunday.

So, I've not had more than 2 weeks off golf since 2004. So, I am incredibly nervous, and excited about tonight. Our 1st hole is an iron shot, as there are trees about 190 yards from tee, dogleg right. I'm hitting driver. Even though I'm closer to 300 yards to 190 yards, driver has the biggest head and gives me a fighting chance of hitting that little small white ball.

First ball off the tee and a straight cold top to about 100 yards off the tee.

Played off the whites and the best knock year of the so far. 8 over gross (with gimmes) and won the match 7&6.

Really pleasing as not only I have not played and I had not even swung a club until the first tee during the last 7 weeks.

I reckon that 10 minute tee intervals for 2 balls was bit too generous and bit of being over careful all the way round you could see everybody was miles apart from the next group. 10 minutes is our normal time for 4 balls playing comps.

One of the noticeable things about our course was the effects of lack of rain in the West Country over the last couple of months. Some areas showing signs of 'burn out' and where the fairways were deep slitted to improve the drainage in the winter there are significant 'trenches'.

Well, due to the weather and a dislocated shoulder in Feb today was the first round in 116 days!
We were not allowed to warm up on the range and were only allowed out the car park 15 mins before so it was a few quick stretches a few swings and straight off the 1st with driver. Wasn’t bad, faded right and into the rough, which was rough much deeper than usual.
Bogeyed the first 5, blobbed the 6th and by this time I was comfortable. I won’t bore you all with any more detail, 30 points with 3 blobs sums it up enough. Great to be back out there, short game and putting needs an absolute ton of work!

Two shanks off the first tee (a par three) wasn’t a great start and I was a bit scrappy throughout but it’s my first round since September so I’ll take not having any air shots.

Had a quick blast round the back 9. Course looking lovely, but greens slow. It was great to be back out even if the golf was a mixture of the good, the bad and the ugly.
