Played in my first handicap qualifying medal this morning. Stood on the first tee at 7:36am and i will be honest i was absolutley bricking my pants! I always take every round serious and play the best i can but this was something else, hands were shaking

I hit my first tee shot and woosh off it went straight onto the middle of the green and i thought mm nice relax, Wrong! I then 4 putted somehow. Followed that with and 8 on the par 5 second and i was wondering where the hell i was. Proceeded to have a rocky front 9 battling my nerves but managed to settle down just before the turn to end up with 49 after 9 holes.

The 10th hole is beast that ive had a run in with a few times and this time was no different. I sliced my tee shot into Sherwood forest down the right and feared the worst. After hitting a provisional smoking down the middle  i luckily managed to find my first tee shot and got it out with the second attempt and stumbled to a 7. At this point i thought here we go again. Suprinsingly i managed to pull myself together though and ended up with a reasonable back 9 score of 44 which also included a 2 on the 17th :D. Ended up with gross 93 nett 73 which i was reasonably happy with after the trouble i had!

Sat in the clubhouse with a pint afterwards and thought what a roller coaster of emotions that was! Not my best score ever but a very enjoyable day and I cant wait to do it all again! Roll on Thursdays mid week medal!!

Well done, it's not really so bad after all is it? Now you have an idea about the nerves etc you will do fine in he next one.

I didnt want it to end on the back 9 once i had settled down :). I really enjoyed it. If i can be a bit more together from the start next time im sure i can do better and hopefully get a healthy cut in handicap.

Don't worry abou the cuts, they will take care of themselves less pressure is a good thing!! Enjoy it for what it is a pleasant walk in nice (hopefully ;)) weather!

Well played!

Medal round, card in hand, every shot counts and only one chance at it. Proper golf!

Bet that birdie felt good!

It felt great! Good to get a little reward for keeping it going :)

No wonder so many people are addicted to golf! Just one shining light in the day makes it all worthwhile!

Well done that's it now your off and running, great you managed Robbins it all together would of been so easy to fall apart after the 4 putt and 8. Hope you were in the twos sweep!!

Yeah im off and running and even more hooked than i thought! Cant wait for my next one. Yeah i was in the 2s sweep, gives you a chance of winning something even if your miles of winning the comp so i always tend to go in it even though i only usually get a 2 about once every 10 rounds :)

That isn't a bad return at all given the tribulations on the front nine in particular. To be honest I want to have a few nerves before I play any round. It shows I'm ready and focussed. Its how you deal with them that is the difference and now you know there is no mystery to medal play other than keeping it on the short stuff and getting it in the hole you'll be a lot more relaxed next time out.

I would just say in the next one, don't compare it to this one in terms of how better or worse you are doing. Your nett 73 is done. Just play the next one on its own merits and let that score take care of itself. I got in the habit of thinking "I'm a shot better off here" and compared scored and it kills your focus and you start thinking about what you scould do, what you need to do etc and you forget to play each shot on its merit
