I am new here and have been learning how to hit a golf ball for approximately 8 months. I have been taking lessons at my local golf club and use the driving range frequently.

I bought a new Yonex driver from them after trying out some top brands and this one seemed to be the straightest and furthest.

I average my driving at about 230 yards, but heres my predicament. The furthest I have managed to hit the ball was 250-260 yards hitting the back fence (straight too!) at rustington - but this was when I had a stiff neck and not feeling 100%. I hit the fence time and time again but I haven't managed it again since.

Can anyone explain this?

There's lots off possible reasons like wind direction, quality of balls, temprature etc.
The one I would take a wild guess at is timing.
When you were a bit low, you probably weren't hitting it at full power, having to rely on your timing.
Now you're fit and healthy, you may be going after it a little too hard and losing your co-ordination a touch.
Try and keep it smooth and under control and I suspect you'll start finding the sweet spot again.
Good luck :)

Thanks for the reply's.

I think this seem's to be one of my "issues" that keeps bitting my ass - I always swing like a bat out of hell. But it doesn't add up in my head that smooth can still generate big hits. I can hit the ball straight 75% of the time, but perhaps its down to luck rather than judgement?

The ironic thing is - last thursday I played a corporate competition and managed to win "furthest drive" into 10mph winds, against 15 other guys. The bloke that was supposed to win it still isn't talking to me - he plays off 14...ha.
