I had a lesson today and...

I didn't realise that. I just liked the smooth tempo you got from it. You can't over swing because you will just lose your balance so it helps to swing smoothly. In my case, it also removes a mess of swing thoughts, simplifies things. I'm so busy trying not to overdo my balance that I don't get muddled up with other things that sometimes get in the way

In @Springveldt example it sounds like he was giving it full beans still but he's a better player than me so he can do this and not fall over 😂.
Giving it full beans is my default golf mode. Even when I think I’m swinging slow and smooth people say it looks like I’m trying to knock the skin off the ball. 😬

I know nobody cares but I just wanted to share some positive news.

A well known internet golf coach tore my golf swing to shreds last year (in a nice constructive way, but it was a bit of a reality check). I kept working with my coach, it's been a gruelling slog ever since. Motivation was low at times, considered hanging up the bats, wasn't enjoying being out there as much - but what it did motivate me to do was to listen, trust the process, practice better, ask questions, do my own research and so on. After about 7/8 months of work, countless hours at the range and lots of balls, practicing at home, in the elevator at work, at my desk etc - dare I say I finally have cracked it and now have a working, repeatable, functional swing.

There have been a few epiphany moments that turned out to be short lived so I am cautious - but I feel like it's finally came together after all my hard work and I can't wait to get out there properly in the spring/summer. There is still some work to do, in particular with wedges - but the swing is looking textbook and the latest change has been the final piece of the jigsaw which has made all my hard work rewarding and my ball striking is on point - CONSISTENTLY! :D . Very much looking forward to the season ahead - especially with my new speed too.

Fair play. Great to hear hard work paying off.

I'd love to see the old swing and the new. Don't be shy. 😀

Are we not going to name the internet coach? Did you send him your swing or have an online lesson with them for them to rip your swing apart?

Final lesson last night from the package and it was a really good one. Started out as usual with my 8 iron and I noticed something weird as my first swing was nearly 86mph and 109 ball speed which is usually my fully warmed up, trying to hit it hard kind of speeds. After 7 or 8 swings I'm swinging my 8 iron at 90mph and getting ball speeds of 114mph without even feeling like I'm trying to kill it which is way above normal.

We move onto driver as I wanted him to have a look at my path and see if we can get it a bit more neutral as Trackman has me swing anywhere between 4 and 6 left on most swings. We adjusted my stance as I was too wide, tried get more pressure into my right side on the backswing as I was almost reverse pivoting (I'm terrified of "swaying" off the ball) and then have the feeling of rotating hard left because as per normal I stall out with the fear of the big left miss. We did this while shortening my backswing massively to the point that it honestly felt like I was just trying to pitch the ball down the fairway, my swing felt like I was only going back to 9 and through to 3 with my driver like I do with 90 yard pitch shots with my PW.

The results were stupidly good. It felt like I was putting zero effort into the swing yet I was getting 100-103mph clubhead speeds, ball speeds between 146-152mph and nearly everything within 5 yards of the centre of the fairway, all going between 255-268 yards (didn't have carry showing, only total). I commented that I felt like I could hit that shot on command all day.

I've got the studio booked tonight from 7pm so I'll probably work on this some more but I may be using this as my "fairway finder" if it still works as well as last night.

Sounds like you got a similar feeling to I did with driver. Once I got that bottom half stable, the rest just clicked in to place and I could swing faster and more repeatably without even thinking about it. It's not 100% on the course, but it's such a good feeling! Nice work

This is 100% me at the moment as well. As you've seen in my swing thread, I thought I was shortening my swing but then watching it back it was like John bloody Daly (without the results of Daly). Was at the range last night, and when I really focus on not being wild on the way back - literally what feels like a 70% swing - then I strike it so much better and straighter, with every club. It's just about having the discipline to do that every time! As soon as my focus drops even slightly I'm back to the wild Daly backswing, which results in swinging over the top with a big out-to-in move.

I was managing 130 ball speed with driver, which is nothing like your numbers but pretty good for me I think.

I've no doubt I'll revert back to a "normal" swing, the part I was really excited about was the CHS and ball speed without really trying. I did try two swings at the end which would be my normal on the course swing and CHS was 106mph on both. Problem was I hit both off the toe so they weren't any better than the short swing as the ball speed was 149mph and 151mph on them. I'm looking forward to tonight to try a few things out and see if I can get CHS to 110mph on a speed session while hitting a ball.

I had my first lesson for 18 months on Wednesday, and wow I had got into some bad habits….. posture was terrible, club getting inside and then massively over the top and spinning out. We worked on a better takeaway and then turn, with the feel of then keep my back to target longer and not swinging left, (my go to when I’m playing badly).

I’m just off down the range where I plan to spend as much time working on the feels without a ball as I will actually hitting balls, some hard work needed to get my swing back to where it was!

I had the opposite from my coach last night. I was hitting it well and he was happy but said I could do with lengthening my back swing .I was using a 8 iron and getting 130yrds but he thought I was hitting 7 iron .. I lengthening my swing , which I felt was a lot and got one at 144 and rest 140 yrds. My lesson was classed as a MOT , 30mins lesson , 30mins gapping and check my clubs . He pointed out my putter grip wasn’t square with the face . Got the laser on it and it was quite a lot out . Put me a new grip on today . Think I’ve finally found a coach I like and connect with , not too complicated for me

Wow - how does that happen? Is that one you bought second hand or have you had the grip changed yourself since you got it? Imagine not putting great for six months and then realising your grip wasn't on straight, I'd be fuming. 😄

I bought it off my mate . I texted him last night and told him . He said he had the Taper grip put on by the pro where we both play . One of the reasons I go to another Pro for lessons and equipment ( Mizuno stockist).

I had to have my putter head re-glued, it was slightly off when they put it back on, I noticed on the 1st green….

Two range sessions in, already seeing signs of improvement, still a long way to go.

And one of the reasons that I put my grips on myself. Then I can't blame anyone else!
