I did something tonight I haven't done for 30 years ....

I was invited by a customer to participate in their annual golf event at Kelso Golf Club this afternoon. I turned up with a dozen Srixxon Z=stars and a glove as prizes and met up staff and suppliers before the game. I was paired with two staff members I know and we were 3rd last to tee off. All was good and althought I haven't played since September last year I felt okay. I tee'd my ball up, adrressed it with my driver, swung at it .....




................................................ AND MISSED !!!!!!!!!!!!!




My first fresh air shot since I was 12. Luckily the ball stayed on the tee and I managed a bogie 5 (counting the fresher) and got off lightly tbh.

I finished 2nd with 34 points, nearest the pin at 15 which won me a lovely bottle of Lepanto Solera Brandy and my swipe didn't even get a mention afterwards.

I'm sure I was told by a previous coach that an air strike on the tee that doesn't put a ball in play is not counted. Even if the ball fell off the tee, you hadn't hit it so wasn't put in play. Once in play, the air shots count.

Just looked it up on the R&A, I am indeed corrected.

Actually I'm remembering back now, and I think the case in question he was explaining when lining up the club and knocking the ball off the tee before actually taking a swing at it.

Some of Kevin Na's come very close to being air shots rather than practice. We just have to take his word that he wasn't intending to hit the ball...until he does:mmm:.
