Hybrids, the new chipper?

So give me a choice between hacking out sideways and having 200 to the green .........

or

Getting the hybrid under it, advancing it 120 anywhere on the fairway and leaving me a smooth sand wedge in.......

If you have a hybrid and can progress forward then good on you, you can get a middle iron out too, however if you have to hack out sideways then that situation would be suicidal to try and go forward.
At the end of all of this I still understand why people might carry one, I just don't understand why so many people feel the need to replace several clubs which is going back to my original post, if you cannot hit your longer irons (plural), would you not go and get help?

No, because I never bought a 3i. If I bought one now, I'd have to take a club out of the bag to make room for it.

Also because most sets are now 4-PW there is a need to fill the gap
