Murph, they are nicknamed fairway finders, you wont find many pins on a wider fairway
(not under normal conditions anyhoo)
I don't understand your gripe Brendy....hybrids are easy to manouvre and easy to hit,in a word versatile.1,2,& 3 irons are in comparison alot harder to control and hit.........why make a hard game even harder if there is something there to help you.
You sound like Freddielong, tell you what get back to your Persimmon and Balata next time your out.
Is it just that you fancy removing something other than posts/threads?
I have to admit, never tried it out of the bunker!
You mention the versatility of the 3 iron, ever tried bump and runs up sloping greens? slicing and hooking round trees etc?
If you are in the rough, common sense says hit a club that will put you back in play, not the most optimistic one. I would never hit a 3 iron from the rough, on the same token, I have learned to take my medicine... most of the time.
Quick question, do many links members use hybrids?

I like going for the green from 200 yards out of the crud. It's fun. It's more fun than chipping out sideways. And I'm rubbish at chipping out too.
Why are hybrids innaccurate?
Mine isn't.
I see my game lacking from 100yds to around 30 yards out which is probably why I just dont get the reflex action to chuck a club in favour of the easy way. Remember, not all 3 irons are blades btw, take callaway for instance, their 3 irons are very easy to hit.
Dont get me started of Custom Fitting, imagine spending a great deal of time getitng measured and fitted for the perfect club only to throw half of them in the closet and whop out standard lie and loft hybrids.
I suppose my main gripe with them is that you have to learn to adapt to hit hybrids. The way I see it is that the difference between an 8 iron and 9 iron is pretty much the same difference between each iron in the bag so why do people resign themselves into thinking that hybrids are the way forward to replace perfectly good clubs in the bag. Like all things in golf it is all in the mind, teach yourself to love your FULL set of irons.
A lot of players do not (cannot?) hit longer irons hard enough to create the back spin necessary to keep the ball airborne. This gives them reduced carry, and hence a lack of distance. The hybrid gets the ball up without the need for fast club head speed.
...teach yourself to love your FULL set of irons.
