Hybrid harder to hit than long irons?

I have a 3 Hybrid which I hit nice around 220 yards. I really struggle with my 4 iron (always pull it left) so thinking of getting a 5 hybrid but I'm worried about looking like a lady golfer with so many woods in my bag:smirk:

You can worry how you look, or worry about how you play and score...I'll take the money wearing pink with a bag full of woods any day (but then again I'll never be confused for a lady...)

Don't worry about that, I have a 5, 7 and 9 wood and only upto a 7 iron normally(sometimes I carry my 6 iron to make 14 clubs but struggle to hit it) in my bag. This year I tried again hitting lower irons and even a new tie lies Ti 3 wood, but for some reason just cant hit them:confused:, they are all little suckers.

Would actually like a 11 wood for that 165ish carry range tbh but can hit the 7 iron when I go after it.

Got for it, get them in raspberry colour and at least it will give your playing partners a good laugh;)

I was only messing with the Lady comment. It would be nice to find a 200 yard club I can hit consistently. I don't use them much as I hit a decent distance but those long Par 4's or the short Par 5's it would come in handy.
The other great use for my 4 iron is hitting it low out of trees.

Having said that if I found myself considering a 7 or 9 wood before I'm 60 I think I would have to think about quitting. I give one of my playing partners so much stick for using a 7 wood when I have a 7 iron.

Ive always had Hybrids, love them. Somehow everyone says that they hook them but occasionally I have to fight them the other way (Possibly down to shaft I have in it) Im toying with getting rid of the 4iron and getting another hybrid because I never hit the 4i and i think off the Tee on our tight/short Par 4s it would be cracking.

Am considering emergency purchases of high loft hybrids as I have a dose of the unmentionables.

I had two birdies on Saturday (four if you include birdies with my second ball!!) in our medal and shot 87.

Six shanks. :( Two with a five iron that each lost a ball and three with a wedge, one went OOB and another lost another ball. The last one was the worst on a par 5, hit a huge drive and a 250 yard 3 wood to five yards short of the green. Shanked the pitch and the ball flew over a boundary wall - OOB.

Haven't shanked a ball for 25+ years. Heart breaking. :(

Two more hybrids would be a quick fix - unshankable!

However I need to sort it out as lob wedge lofted hybrids aren't on the market - yet.

Alien lob wedge is a hybrid type lob. Brutal and unnecessary.

Any time I've shanked a wedge I have never been looking at the ball. Ive always been head up and looking at the flag as the sound happens. Your own tip of seeing the club hit the ball fixes these.

Full shot shanks for me is fixed by staying more centred. Not swaying off the ball.

Having sporadic shanks is the worst. Its easier to fix if they are on every shot.

Good luck.

I know what the problem is. Hitting from the top is pulling the club down on an out to in path.

Divots prove this. Fixing it is not too tricky. I am going to practice on Friday night with a bucket placed about 40cm behind the ball and hit shots without catching the bucket. Usually sorts my plane out and gets my draw back.

I binned off my hybrid last season and put a 2iron back into the back. I found my hybrid to be a hook machine with a really high flight which is not what i want to see.

The 2 iron on the other hand is a joke, its goes absolute miles!

me too

For a higher handicap the hybrid is easier to hit from the tee for sure, but for the lower there is less control than with a long iron
Hybrids go further so they are not the precision club even a 2 iron is, more of a wood

I could not hit hybrids at all until i stopped trying to swing them as if i was sweeping a wood and starting using them as if they were irons.

For tee shots a low lofted hybrid goes a long with with a more accuracy than a wood, from grass irons are my preference as i am a pretty decent striker
