Humidity

Always been a bit sceptical of these new synthetic shirts with "moisture wicking" etc, usually prefer the feel of cotton, but totally convinced now after playing in one yesterday. It really worked!

I thought it was just me and all the beer from Friday at the open was coming out of me...... My shirt was soaking by the 3rd!!

Thankfully we got a little bit of rain to cool me down (and disguise my perspiration!!)

All you need is water and a moderate degree of fitness. I have played twice this week, Tuesday and yesterday and can honestly say that while it was a tad uncomfortable having to wear the waterproof jacket yesterday on and off yesterday, i felt as fresh at the end as I always do (and played my two best rounds of the year)

I have said before on these threads, and I stand by it, that all these fancy sports drinks and energy foods are completely and totally pointless. If you get tired part way through a round of golf, you need to get fitter, there is no substitute.

It was ok - just kept myself hydrated

I have loads of gatorade powder from my time in the desert and they really help with the hydration but general level of fitness is also crucial to keep the energy levels high.

Having worked for months in both Iraq and Afghan as well as playing lots of high energy sports in Cyprus yesterday was nothing really and if you did struggle then certainly need to look at fitness

500ml Orange Juice 500ml Water and a small pinch of salt

Home made lucozade, used to use this when I cycled a lot

Other than that, just don't play in the heat of the day, or get a buggy ;)

I used to live in Hong Kong, so this is nothing :)

This is true although I normally ad 2 tea spoons of sugar 1 of salt

Have to agree that it wasn't 'really bad' like it has been in the past. I don't believe the humidity levels were as high as I've previously experienced - and suffered in. The fantastic light-show storm the other night probably 'helped' reduce those levels. It's the day before storms that seems worst for me.

Humidity often gets to silly levels in summer here and its all about wearing as little as possible and drinking water

One thin layer, preferably made from the the new climate/sweat material, really makes a difference. (Adidas ones are good)
I cant/won't wear any of the golf tops I brought from the Uk as they are just not fit for purpose

Avoid rain jackets completely and instead just get wet and carry a spare golf top in the bag to change into once rain stops

its also the actual air temp Homer, basically the body is too hot and energy is spent trying to cool it down.

If I knew it was gonna be 30+ I wouldnt bother playing personally

When it's hot, you sweat... this then evaporates and it's this that helps you to cool down (evaporative cooling, look it up :) ). If it's humid, your sweat doesn't evaporate very well, so you can't cool yourself down as efficiently as you might do on a less humid day.
