Until recently, I wasnt aware of HowdidIdo.com, or the fact that my course posted results on there, so its interesting to look at the Stats, and in particular, my scoring comparisons against other cat2 players, or indeed Cat1 or all Categories etc.

Having decided that if I am ever to get down to Singles, this is the year perhaps, but 3 x .1 increases have so far left me sneaking back up to 12

So, I decided that Short Game practice is where it must be at, and where I should be concentrating.
But, looking at the scoring comparisons at MY Club, against all other Cat2 players, here's what it shows....

Birdies Me 3.55% Others 3.89%
Pars Me 34.33% Others33.69%
Bogeys Me 37.59% Others 42.03%
Double Bogeys
or worse Me 24.82% Others 20.34%

What it clearly shows all to clearly, is that yes, I do need to be getting closer to the Pin and perhaps making a birdie or 2 more here and there, BUT, that its the Double Bogey's that are the issue really perhaps .

By perhaps accepting that after that bad Tee shot, I arent going to be able to get to the green, thereby leaving myself in the bunker, and that the sensible play is a 5iron down the middle, leaving a 30yd Chip, and a putt which I might just sink, but giving me a safe bogey.

Seems all too clear to me after looking at the Stats, you should have a look at your Stats against other players at your own Club, it might just show you something too.

Oh, it also has Hole by Hole stats so that you can see which are your 'real' bogey holes and the ones costing you the shots, makes interesting viewing.

Ps: I have no affilliation with the site, just thought it might help......

I've looked at the breakdown hole by hole too.
Assuming I play no worse than bogey for the rest of the round, if I play our 1st 5th and 7th in par then I'm on average 6 shots up on everyone else!!

If you want the best software (in my opinion) download the trial version of scoresaver2. It has more stats than you can shake a stick at and is great for really pinpointing the weaknesses in your game. Once you've used it, there is a one off cost (approx £35) but if you PM SS2 he might give you a discount code

Homers assesment of Scoresaver2 is spot on, yes it will cost £35, but for what you get it's good value.
It will point out parts of your game you should be working on.

my club instituted a months free trial of a stats system (not sure which one).
it involves carrying a foot long card around and marking a host of details for every hole by striking through the appropriate data with a single vertical line. at the end of the round the card is fed into a reader, which apparently gets confused by anything other than the vertical line!

it has not proved popular, far too much hassle and all but useless in the wet. (not sure how it handles creased and crumpled cards either)

I think you'll find it's £40 now, that's what put me off. I won't ask for discount, as I think that's rather cheeky from someone I don't know.

Twire.

SS2 is a member on here and occasionally runs a promo code which gives the buyer discount. Don't be too embarassed. There are quite a number on this forum that have signed upto Scoresaver because of the rave reviews it gets from forum members. I'm sure SS2 won't mind you pm'ing him.

In the mean time, give the months free trial a go. Just to see if you like it or not.

Out of interest I've looked at HowdidIdo. It was the little snippet in the OP that got my curiosity. "The club posts the comp results...."

It turns out our club does post the results on there. So I registered, and to my surprise my results are there in black and white. I won't be using the site for stats analysis (already using SS2), but it will be a great comparison for me to see how others in my cat are doing.

It's also the only place, other than the club notice board, where I can get my results. But why don't the club 'advertise' to it's members about finding the results on HowdidIdo?

So to those that use other stats programmes. Be aware that HowdidIdo is not just a personal stats software. But a useful service for obtaining your results and comparing your score against others. After-all, I'd written HowdidIdo off as just another stats programme. Don't make the same mistake I made.
