How would you rate yourself....as a Marker?

I usually have a good idea in my head what the right answer should be and so kind of knowing what I'm expecting to hear when I ask. If it differs I'll ask him if he is sure, and politely ask him to confirm how he came to the total. Not a problem most of the time. Only 1 guy I've encountered in 30+ years who blatantly couldn't count and would be out on most holes.

No, it would say "must".

I still say that it's best practice to agree after each hole. If you mark a 6 on the first and the player marks a 5 for himself, I can't see it being easy to resolve after leaving the 18th green.

If I've marked that 5 its because I've seen every single swipe at the ball they have had - if I didn't I would confirm (as said in both previous posts)

Particularly in a comp, I think that every player should be allowed their own space to do what they want. After someone has just 3 whacked from 5ft, I want to give them some space to have a quiet little word with themself, I do not want to be adding to their mood by asking "was that a bogey for you?"! Chirping up at that stage and adding to their mood might end up ruining the next couple of holes for them - all because I can't be bothered to count or wait a few minutes to mark the card.

I'm not going to change that as I think it's the right thing to do and shows a bit of respect to my playing partner. Each to their own though :)
