how would you deal with...

Get the win and in 20 years, after he's won a couple of majors, bore people senseless with tales of that time you beat him in a club match. But never mention his age!

:D

Spot on

The only game I missed for my Sunday league football club was the weekend I got married and Razor Ruddock played in my place but I got back in the following week ........ I don't usually add that he was only 12

Played through a couple of junior groups yesterday, always try to engage with them, ask about their round/game, only ever get one word answers from them. Its like talking to my dog.

Offer him a hot drink from your flask but don't tell him about the double shot of Brandy in it, then take him to the cleaners and ask what all the fuss was about :smirk:

Where does he tee off from? Junior (blue) stones further forward or your competition stones of the day?

no idea, but in this he would have had to play the same tee's as everyone else as it was a scratch comp

Surely a 10 year old cannot play to 4 off the comp tees? Would be amazing to watch first hand if he can, as long as you play to 3:lol:

not sure TBH, all i know is he is off 4, everyone says he's going to be better than his older brother, who was not that low at that age. but sandy did go from 3 to +4 in just over a year

I'm sure it would be good fun, couple of our juniors are very slow though as they are replicating what they see on to and occasionally need a hurry up! I would think his short game would be pretty decent to get to 4 as I'm sure he isn't knocking it 300 yards off the tee yet.
I think if it was me playing I would just chat away and enjoy the golf as I always do, it's only a game after all :)

Don't exaggerate, he's 12.

I was curious about the two brothers as they sound like special talents.

Looks like the younger one must have come down a couple of shots already this season, so he really must be some prospect.

I remember being down at my local range a couple of years ago and some lads from the Scottish boys team were warming up ahead of a tournament nearby, there was this left handed who was absolutely belting it. He went on to win the comp comfortably including a 66 on the last day - a real cut above when you see kids that can play golf like that.

Are you sure, what does it being a scratch event have a bearing on which tee's he has to play off, he's a junior and has his own tee's, I'm asking because I genuinely don't know! If there was such a thing as a mixed scratch event, by your thinking the ladies would have to play off the same tee's, and that ain't gonna happen!

its not a mixed/junior event, its a mens scratch comp played between 5 teams with no handicaps and at host club, which this year was Forres. i'm sure the oppo would not be happy about someone teeing off halfway down the fairway.

i really don't know what tee's , i will ask him or his dad if i see them this week.

As the registered owner of a 10 year old I know from experience that their Achilles heel is mentioning girls. There's your route to an easy win...

In all seriousness, it's great to see and bodes well for the future of the game. I've no issue with playing against lads like this and would just try my damnedest to play well. No different to any other talented golfer and good luck to them.

Here we go....fight the good fight...

Karen, the point I'm making is, I play in loads of matchplay opens and the ladies always play off the ladies tees, leaving me to give hundreds and in 1 case over 1000 yards away! Whether it's right or not is another debate altogether, but, in any comp of any format I've never seen a lady play off the same tees as me or anyone else, so by that same token, a lady club scratch player would have achieved her handicap by playing off the ladies tees, no doubt the same as this junior lad may have done, and so it's not illogical to think that in the event of a scratch contest mixed with ladies and/or juniors amongst men, everyone would still play off there designated, gender/age tees.
