How wet must it be before you quit?

Preparation is the key in my experience,if you know whats coming you can prepare yourself and your kit (to a degree).I've walked off the course many times due to heavy rain/snow,but never in a comp, and yes i have been at the "squelchy pants" stage on one or two occasions. :D

Last July i came third in an open in disgusting rain, then changed my clothes top to bottom and went out and played a medal at my home course - and won

if its raining, then I know I'm gonna come in with a good result (note: this doesnt mean good score - just that everyone else is mumping so much they score worse than me)

bring on the scottish summer! ;)

I guess I'd not play if there was loads of standing water but then the course would probably be closed anyway!

So, I'd play unless the course was closed..... :smirk:

Played in the Hever Open last year and it rained and rained and rained. Felt like walking off but it was a competition so stuck it out. It wasn't nice.
If it is lobbing it down and I'm just having a friendly knock I'll give it a miss. If it starts to rain on the way round I'll do my best to put up with it, but as somebody else pointed out above...it ain't easy when you wear glasses.
I didn't use to mind playing in the rain before I had to start wearing bins. But they are the biggest bugbear.

I take it none of you wear glasses! Rain and wind make it impossible to see the ball at address. If playing is optional I don't. Competitions I do.

Hate the rain for the very same reason, but I shove a load of loo roll in the waterproof pocket on the rain cover and pull the peak of the weather cap down as low as possible and tough it out - as long as the greens aren't ponding and there is no lightning I'm still out there! :ooo:

First weekend I've been able to play golf for about two months coming up this week. BBC Weather predicts a lot of rain on Saturday. Thinking of going anyway, at least the course will be empty! Just going with the knowledge that I'll get wet anyway so will have a set of clothes in the car ready.

How much rain do you need before you won't play?

Once theres standing water on the greens its time to call it a day.

I can understand the guys (and girls) who might have limited time and are willing to play in rough weather. I'm lucky I can play when I like so if it's blowing a gale or tipping it down I tend to give it a miss. Might be a challenge but I just find it miserable hard work.

Has to be pretty bad for me to want to walk off.

If the greens are flooded and you can't putt is a good indicator or if despite all the protection my gear gets soooooo soaked I can't even keep a grip on the club is another good one. Just pointless trying to play on, even though I still try.
