How wet must it be before you quit?

First weekend I've been able to play golf for about two months coming up this week. BBC Weather predicts a lot of rain on Saturday. Thinking of going anyway, at least the course will be empty! Just going with the knowledge that I'll get wet anyway so will have a set of clothes in the car ready.

How much rain do you need before you won't play?

Needs to be hammering it down with high wind speed before I give up on a round of golf.
Bit of rain or drissle never puts me off it just makes getting a playing partner harder.

needs to be thundering down with no sign of a let up. If its a competition then you play regardless. Last bad one we had the marshals had to come out and tell us to come in, course closed, you couldn't see the green from the Tee it was that heavy

I've only ever walked off once due to bad weather. It wasn't so much the rain but the bitingly cold wind that came with it that day, By the sixth hole I couldn't feel my hands they were that cold. On a moderately warm day though I would be quite happy to play in the rain as long as there was no lightning and the course wasn't waterlogged.

If its not a comp' and it's raining before I even leave the house I won't bother going, I been soaked to the skin too many times.
It just takes the enjoyment out of it for me nowadays.

If it is hammering it down before I get to the first tee then count me out, cannot see any fun in going round the entire 18 holes in that. If I am into the round when it starts I put on my trusty Galvins and see the round out or wait to be called in. Never been on the first Tee when it is bucketing it down

2 weeks ago we played a full round over 4 hours at it was pissing down from start to finish, also started snowing. No point in playing at all but was good fun and didnt shoot a bad score. The bag and clubs took 4 days to dry!

I play for enjoyment and I don't really enjoy it in the rain. If it's raining at the start of a friendly knock I'll probably give it a miss.

If it's a comp I'll play and try to get my attitude sorted out... there are plenty of people who don't wanto to be out there and the quality of their play will reflect that. Often if you keep your head together and manage something in the 30s points wise, you are in with a shout.

I've had 4 rounds this year where conditions were absolutely appalling - high winds, heavy rain, low temperature. Two were in the Winter Alliance so you were committed to play and continue to play - it was so bad that the professionals were struggling to reach 30 points (and I didn't either). The other two were qualifiers and one was the final round of our Winter Cup and I was in the joint lead going into the round - it was a bogey and I finished on +5 which, fortunately was 2 strokes better than the other joint leader. On all 4 occasions I was wondering what the hell I was doing playing golf in weather which would stop me from doing anything other than golf. That said, I did feel really good that I persevered and managed at least a score draw with the elements.

My decisions are more affected by how windy it is rather than how wet. Unless it's practically a sheet of water pouring down then I generally play, but if it's very windy I don't see the point (that includes dry days) as hitting a drive into a strong wind and seeing it travel 100yds is just soul destroying.

Once my underpants are flooded I'll walk in... if you can call it 'walking' at that stage

was sort of what i was thinking....

in all seriousness, if it is going to be on and off i dont mind, likewise with heavy light rain or showers on and off... but if its in for the day and its raining hard with no sign of gaps, it will take alot to get me off the first tee
